That second vid looks really interesting and there are a lot of nice features. My only concern here is that some of the features look to "easy" or "automatic", like the dialling of the scope and that weapons go in and out of ironsights extremely fast, with perfectly aligned ironsights nearly all the time.
So what, you want misaligned ironsights that take you 2 minutes until you can get a clear shot?

Unscrewing the stick grenade in the 1st vid - great!

What still worries me is that in all, we have seen bits of about 3 maps and these have been infantry at close quarters and indoors - a smg Rattenkrieg.

Hopefully there are maps for bolt rifles and vehicles: open air, Combined Arms maps. There was a survey here on the forum about this recently and CA maps won, I think.

I think there was a nice open town like map they started to play before the grain elevator video where they apologized for the screwup.

Mind=blown.

Awesome stuff TWI. My RO love have just been kickstarted to life :)

Why don't you release a proper trailer? Off-screen grabs don't do any justice, you need more publicity on game websites.

I'd like to be able to love everything that TWI has shown in the videos put up this far but for every 2 nice features there is something that says "meh"for another.

Agreed.

As for the MBK-42, I guess this is a "heroes" weapon. I actually missed it in the videos.

I also don't like how they want you to spawn with your squad to promote quicker action based gameplay.

It does seem like they are going more for tight, close combat.

Looks like a big improvement over the last footage. It's shaping up nicely and looking far more complete than I expected. Also it's very encouraging to see that the devs implemented features the fans have been asking for over the last few years (slow deaths and a solution to valuing your ingame life are two examples) Here are my pros and cons (much more pros):

+ slow death feature - makes dying more interesting
+ one life per stage - a nice compromise between unlimited and single life (as others have said I wish the still living players wouldn't be forced to respawn as well however)
+ cover system/blind fire - looks very smooth and useful
+ animated ragdoll deaths - though kind of a choppy transition makes deaths look more interesting
+ graphics - everything from the models to the textures to the light rays to the animations (not perfect but I like em) and shadows look very very good
+ bullet penetration - yes! finally!
+ black area of 3d scope - awesome touch
+ weapon carrying animation difference - another awesome touch
+ dialed in sniper scope/iron sighted sniper rifles - little options like this add up and make the truly great games, another awesome touch
+ destruction - it's by no means BC2 but I'm happy to see it in place

- HUD/UI too colorful, cartoony, and gamey looking. The cap zone bar especially looks pretty bad and even more out of place here than in Ostfont. Ideally no HUD at all and simple ingame notifications from a little animation or sound would work best but if not that a simple black and white bar or text would be more appropriate to not detract from the 3D visuals.
- Recon planes are also gamey and out of place considering the realism elsewhere.

Keep up the awesome work TW! This demo has been pretty damn impressive.

I have to agree with Amerikaner about the HUD. I really, really hate the text, and above all hate the modern look to the map and icons. Why can't we have the old, torn and faded paper map back?

I even greatly disliked the old look. We weren't pirates in Ostfront so I'm not sure why all the HUD elements looked like scrolls. Now it looks like some sort of neo-propaganda. I would just like it as simple and unobtrusive as possible so I can revel in the beauty of the graphics, not the HUD.

This is pretty much my criticisms also. The "recon plane" seems totally out of place for RO. You go through all this trouble to make maps that are photorealistic, and research what weapons could have been present on the battlefield at the time, and then go and add in something gamey like this recon plane.

That and the UI does look really cartoony. It looks like we're using a Pip-Boy 2000 in Stalingrad.

I don't mean to rag on the game, but I'm kind of confused as to why the Devs would go through so much trouble to make the game realistic and improved (which they have done, Amerikaner did a good job of listing them), and then stick these things in there.

EDIT: A much better map would look like a typical topographic map, with some building symbols and whatnot on there. Or maybe a somewhat grainy black-and-white aerial photograph with some lables and outline in pen.

I was referring exclusively to the map as looking old and torn. I suppose it would make more sense to simply have it be blanched and fairly crisp. I really liked Red Orchestra's text font however. It was very simple, and didn't break immersion much. That text, however...

Maybe a crazy suggestion - but how about removing the map and the minimap from everyone except commander/squad leader?

Mini map removed = good.

Normal map needs to stay in, in sometime kind of form.

It is a game after all.

I also hate the recon plane to. A plane can't just spawn close by and come fly over the battle in seconds.

It would likely take minutes for a plane to divert its course and fly over the area.

Maybe a recon plane can become available once or twice a game, and has a short window of time to be used (say 2-3 minutes). When it becomes avaible, the squad leader would have to order it to fly over.

But otherwise, instant recon planes just screams CoD. ;)
