Just cause one guy didn't see them, doesn't mean they weren't there. Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence.

That also applies to alot of things on other parts of the war. While obviously it might be reasonable, it can also offer huge can of worms that ultimately reduces the overall level of realism of the game.

Who gives a **** if it wasn't in the exact same time, its a game, why have less guns?

With the same argument why not have T-72s, Abrams and some other modern AFVs and some jet aircraft in RO:HoS? More vehicles even though highly anachronic. Sure Mkb is not really anachronic, but it's begging the point how common it truly was. Adding rare stuff into a game should be always done with caution, as much as it may offer interesting "what if?" or supplement something that's in it can be highly abused or exploited especially regarding custom maps or certain preferences.

It's same with the recon planes. Even with the abstract concept how one can accept them in a game like RO:HoS, having constant aerial reconnaisance 'spam' feels like they're willing to reduce overall level of realism just for the sake of it - especially as it acts as 100% accurate UAV with target identification and location based on the videos. Yes, we know the "making more accessible" but how often it equals dumbing the game down rather than improving being user friendly regarding manual, HUD or other stuff?

TWI developers and alot of people will obviously say they know what they're doing and considering TWI is one of those few devteams I still have some faith in, they may be right about it but if there's smoke coming from somewhere there's probably something on fire or otherwise it's pretty damm hot - and how often it's not exactly a positive sign or signal? I cannot read minds or have degree from Miss Cleo to predict what they have put together or know how it truly works out, so I have no option other than to raise concerns based on what I have seen for the moment.

All the media in this thread looks great. Loving the work.

Few things though :-
How is the recon plane "gamey" exactly? Given that they were actually used for STOL recon missions with great frequency. I'll agree that the speed with which it appears after it is called is a little short (but as has been mentioned that could be for demonstration purposes, and it's not like you'll be seeing them all the time.), and that I don't love that it ID's the exact location of every man - it'll depend whether it keeps them on the map for x amount of time or tracks movement etc etc.

The Mkb.42 was delivered to the eastern front (late) in 42 for trials. I'd be super surprised (almost as surprised as I was to see it) if it wasn't just for heroes in HOS.

I'm not a huge fan of the HUD, but I don't have a problem with it - to be honest I barely paid it any mind during the videos. I imagine it'll be just as customisable as the HUD in RO.

Oh and

That is the most 'gamey' part of it. Why not have generic marker on the area where it spotted something? I think someone made some sort of suggestion regarding that in some earlier post that instead of showing them in detail, it just shows where something was spotted.

As for spamming, yes they did mention it's for demonstration purposes but even with a three minute cooldown per each recon plane (as seen in one video) having constant reconnaisance done under brief battlefield conditions using average lenght of typical RO:Ost map in comparasion is questionable for the game's own scale.

No I don't mean put in Jet Ski's and Leopards and all that, This is a semi simulation game, it doesn't need to be exactly on dates, cause then it just gets silly, but yeah, I question too some of the things that are in Heroes.
For example, the squad system, what bothers me is the respawning next to the squad leader, same as Bf2. What about when in the big tank maps, a lot of the fun and reward was actually traveling all that distance to get back to where you were, also it made people be more careful and thoughtful, otherwise they would be traveling the big journey again.
If this cannot be turned off your going to see on the big maps, call of duty style rambos who don't care if they die cause they can respawn next to their squad leader and that sucks.
I really hope Tripwire allows the option to turn off things like this, whether its Recon plane(although I think its cool as long as its not overused), mini map, squad leader respawning and even to leave it like the old one, the bare essentials on the map like artillery, radio, ammo refill, objectives and leave things out like spotted enemy and enemy Tank:).
If these things can be turned off and there is tanks then I'll be more than satisfied, cause it would be a shame if a few minor things like that were to reduce peoples experience of this fabulous looking game.

@CCCP: Wth is the link you posted? The OP there obviously referred to the Mosin Nagant M44 when some people who have no clue jump in and start talking gibberish.

I think we can all agree that we could discuss this weapon to death and not come down to an agreement.

While I'm always happy to have more weapons available, the weapon makes no real sense realism wise (only numbers I have found were 116 produced in 1942) and balance wise, but it does make the game more interesting by adding a "special" weapon. This was probably one of the decisions to attract more casual gamers and I'm fine with it.

Having had a few days to digest all the new info and footage, I can only say that ROHos Looks like being the "Must Buy" game of 2011.

Considering Ramm publicly stated at Gamescom that the games in an advanced alpha stage it looks stunning.

The new gameplay additions have added an element of real class and accessibility to the overall game.

The depth of gameplay comes across as being very flexible so that both new gamers and old vetrans will be able to enjoy the game at varying degrees of complexity.

I have read the fact thread like everyone else but it was still a very enjoyable surprise to see it all working seamlessly together.

The sheer scale of this game is fantastic and it will surely revive and regenerate our community way beyond its present state.

Roll on beta...:D

Production numbers were in the thousands but I've no real info on dates etc. If it was delivered for testing on the eastern front you can bet your arse it would've been for elite units etc so giving it to Heroes is a-ok in my book.

I'm fully aware that nearly 12.000 were produced, but the only production numbers I have found for 1942 (anything later wouldn't have arrived in Stalingrad) were 116 Mkb. 42(H), the rest was in 1943 afaik.
If anyone has some better numbers please post them. :)

If you would have said this 2 years ago then you would have been torn apart by 5 people simultaneously. :p

My god.
I read you with so much pleasure ButchCassidy.

These forums are populated of angry nitpicking kids. How about you guyz read and make some searches before posting all your negative stuff, eh ?
This game is still in late alpha developement, jeez, give at least some peace to the devs who did a great job so far.

"This is gamey and this feature is gamey and this one to and this is to fast and..." Calm down and read what the devs said via the articles and videos.
It's like there is a competition in going on here where the first you post a negative thingy seen on a video footage of a late alpha build of the game you are like a winner ? and that is worth a post ? i don't get it sorry.

Stop arguing about things that aren't even sure of being like you guyz are stating in a final product or beta stage. I guess several devs must laugh pretty hard reading all your concerns and gamey thingies (some posts are at least well documentated and interesting reads but not the mojority of them...)

Now quit spamming non-sense guyz and go back outside practising some sport and chatting with friends around a beer or two...
