I'm like you, unfortunately there has not been many new ww2 games. Ro2 being the latest.

Many old games though, but free? not really.

Combat mission battle for normandy. Not free but new.
It has the same thing going on as this forum does, many people compare it
to the older combat mission games that were WEGO (combination of turn and real time).
Of course the game is very popular, but lost a lot of its older fan base just like RO2.

It is very realistic like RO2 and has a lot of people debating is laurels. However it is now mature
and has settled into a good fan base. It is however very niche. You simply will not get main stream gamers
that want to hard core simulate a company sized engagement in real time.

Main stream will play company of heroes, those in the know play combat mission.
I would almost call this game the RTS of what RO2 is to FPS.

If you meant fps games, ignore this please.

PG Forever - Panzer general remake. User friendly and easy strategy game. Not stupid, though.

Steel Panthers: World at War - "Sequel" to the SP series. Not so new game, but the community is alive. Horrible pages, scroll down for the download link.

Forgotten Hope 2. its a mod for Battlefield 2. Pretty realistic, HUGE maps that are very immersive. Settings range from North Africa to France. Tons of maps. Planes, tanks, even artillery (you can actually get on the artillery). Max player count is 64.

I started playing this this week. It is freaking awesome! Really. It does require you to have the base game of BF2 though.

Is forgotten hope one of those games that gives you tonnes of units while being very basic like BF2 was?
Don't get me wrong I loved BF2 realism mod (cannot remember name). But RO2 offers so much when it comes to weapons and tanks being faithfully reproduced in a "working" not just "replica" fashion that it would be hard to go back.

Totally agree. This is an epic wargame that's had me gripped since it came out. Loads of mods from the community to make it look better also. There is a Commonwealth add-on to be available soon.

My only criticism is that it's a bit pricey but well worth it IMO.

LOL why not play HOS?

Because the OP and a lot of the likeminded trolls frequenting this forum is not really interested in an answer.

A characterisation of them as a group could be this:

10 hours of playing HOS (mostly in the beta)
250 hours and counting of b*tching about it on the forum.

World of Tanks is a fun game, but it does throw realism out the window for an FPS style gameplay.

Forgotten Hope is a good fix if you are looking for an FPS or just a quick action fix. It has mpre in common with Battlefield than RO, but it is loads of fun.

If youre looking for something more realistic or tactical, Invasion 44 is currently the most realistic WWII FPS. But it is more milsim than game so its pretty hardcore when it comes to mechanics.

On the RTS side, you might want to look into the Theatre of War series. Theyre a little older, graphics wise, but if you are willing to overlook shiny visuals, theres a great tactical RTS in there.

All of these let you play whichever side you want.

Now,

Now correct me if im wrong, please do because it would mean i need glasses, but no one in this thread has bashed on ROHOS or trolled. Well, you now being the exception.

The OP merely asked for a suggestion of other WWII games out there because thats what he enjoys. I wouldn't mind hearing about some of these myself since it MY favorite game subject as well.

Its sad to say but its almost like our community is degenerating into the doomsayers calling for the endtimes on the one hand, and fanboy zealots out for blood on the other :(

Battlefield 1942

I don't know if you can find this game free .. and it is an old game .. but you can play from the German side with ground forces, tanks, fighters, and other vehicles.
I don't know if there are multiplayer servers still running, but it provided many hours of fun back when it was popular.

(I didn't care for the mods, especially with jets)

There are free single and multiplayer demos, plus a server file for download.

It isn't a realistic simulator if that's what you are looking for.
You can find it on Ebay for $5 .. a little more than free.

Thats right mate.just like me.12 hours (I think and not counting the beta as it never f***ing worked for me) of playing since the reset and still hate the game.but am sticking around till its modded to be the game I wanted and it should have been.Funny that the number of player has dropped through the floor since release. But hey just keep you head stuck up your arse mate and refuse to acknowledge that RO2 has serious issues.
