Normal soldiers are not marksmen or sharpshooters or whatever. They are guys with a gun and no desire to die. Most of them don't even fire the thing in combat situations.

Getting the title "Guards" in the Russian army means/meant a lot.
It is a kind of unit citation for excellence.

'cause its not like the Naval Infantry and the 13th Guard managed to hold off around 300 Germans with only 48 men, right?

And Real Life is so much more badass than gaming:

At dawn a German tank carrying a white flag approached from the south. We wondered what could have happened. Two men emerged from the tank, a Nazi officer and an interpreter. Through the interpreter the officer tried to persuade us to surrender to "the heroic German army", as defence was useless and we would not be able to hold our position any longer. "Better to surrender the elevator," affirmed the German officer. "If you refuse you will be dealt with without mercy. In an hour's time we will bomb you out of existence."

"What impudence," we thought, and gave the Nazi lieutenant a brief answer: "Tell all your Nazis to go to hell! You can go back, but only on foot." The German tank tried to beat a retreat, but a salvo from our two anti-tank rifles stopped it. The Germans made 10 attacks on the elevator, all failed.

I REALLY wish RO2 had Marine uniforms...

Those Germans in the Grain Elevator picture would have been killed by 200m bolt rifle fire pretty much instantly, according to Red Orchestra logic.

200m? That's an easy shot for a rifle.

27th Guards Rifle (Don't see many rifles b.t.w. (for the people QQ'ing about too many SMG's)):

This guys has 2 citations "Order of the Red Star" (top one) and "Guards Rifle" badge (bottom one). Guards Rifle, with a PPSh and not a bolt action...
