Hi, I've had a lot of trouble since I moved to windows 7 with the game crashing or locking up my computer. If I just crash I get the following message:

PS: I did delete my RO system folder and that did not solve the problem.

Build RedOrchestra_Build_[2005-11-27_10.48]

OS: Windows NT 6.1 (Build: 7100)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 3195 MHz with 4095MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 (9562)

IDirect3DVertexBuffer9::Lock failed(88760870).

History: FD3D9DynamicVertexStream::AddVertices <- FD3D9RenderInterface::SetDynamicStream <- FCanvasUtil::Flush <- UCanvas::DrawTile <- UCanvas::execDrawTile <- (Canvas Package.Canvas @ Function Engine.Canvas.DrawRect : 003C) <- UObject::processEvent <- (DHHud DH-la-Gleize-V2.DHHud, Function ROEngine.ROHud.PostRender) <- FPlayerSceneNode::Render <- UGameEngine::Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level La Gleize <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 4C576C61 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free

If I freeze up i have to do a hard boot.

The end of the log file states:

Localization: No localization: Window.IDDIALOG_CrashBox.IDC_CrashBox (int)
Exit: Exiting.
Log: FileManager: Reading 3 GByte 4146 MByte 4195105 KByte 1019 Bytes from HD took 20.493240 seconds (20.290239 reading, 0.203000 seeking).
Log: FileManager: 2.338006 seconds spent with misc. duties
Uninitialized: Name subsystem shut down
Uninitialized: Log file closed, 12/13/09 20:35:54

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try updating your directx revision to the latest.
And try running the game when the steam overlay is disabled.

If those 2 things dont help try this with your redorchestra.ini file:

Thanks for the response. I reformatted last night from Win 7 x64 Ultimate RC1 to Final and the problem just occurred again.

How can I update my directx revision if Win 7 comes with dx 11 and that ist he newest? Am I missing something here?

I can try the steam overlay (just sign out of friends?) but since I am in a realism unit that wouldn't be the ideal situation but I can give it a try.

I run a Intel i7 920, nvidia 280gtx and have 6 gigs of ram so I have no idea why dx9 to dx8 would be a necessary adjustment but if all else fails I guess I can try it.

I haven't touched Win 7 yet, but I had some crashing and error issues with some games with Windows Vista that I had for XP.

The solution I had to use was to right-click on your desktop/shortcut icon and goto Properties.

Look for the Compatibility section if Win7 has it still, and set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 2. You may also have to set the program to run as Administrator.

This happened a lot with my BF2 and switching compatibility & admin settings in the shortcut as described above fixed it perfectly.

I'm not sure if this will actually solve your crashes and errors, but nobody mentioned the above solution yet, so I figured I'd toss it out there.

Also, perhaps you should check to ensure you have the newest video drivers for your system. The drivers you had for your old OS or the original disc you got with the video card may no have the right drivers/specs to tell Windows 7 what it's supposed to do with this game. (AKA: Maybe Win7 uses your video card slightly different from past OS's for reduction in resources being used.)

The error you noted states: "IDirect3DVertexBuffer9::Lock failed(88760870)." thus something with your Direct 3D got screwed up, which is leaning me towards the problem being with your video card and the drivers your Win7 is using.

Update them by getting the latest drivers here:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

^ Since Nvidia seems to have a crap load of different version cards with almost identical names and numbers, go through the second option "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products." and click on "Graphics Drivers"

The web site may ask you to install an ActiveX or similar program, but it's legit and shouldn't screw up your system. Install, let the site scan your system and it will find exactly what video card you have for what kind of PC system and show you exactly what drivers you need.

Download, install, restart your computer and let me know if this worked.

steam overlay isnt the same as friends it will still work you can disable it in the options.

If you run a multiple monitor setup you could try playing with one monitor disabled. On nvidia setups it doesnt seem to always like multi monitor setups.

Well I have the newest drivers for my card, so I don't really need to run that scan. However I am attempting to install this DX run-time update

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

It says it will update 9.0c and below versions of direct x and says its compatible with win 7 which comes with dx11 so perhaps it will do the trick. It will take a while to reproduce in game so I'll keep you informed.
