Hello,

as we know that TWIs new game is going to be a tactical realism shooter probably going to be released for PC and consoles I thought I'd make this suggestion. Many of you probably know achievements from games like CoD4 or Xbox Live. They were very motivating and you also sometimes got cool rewards. So I thought why not have them in GAME 2 as well? I imagined two variants:

  • The more arcade variant with achievements like 'Get 3 headshots' and stuff like that maybe comparable to DoD:S or TF2
  • A realistic, new way of achievements. Some examples:
    • Take out the MG-Gunner who's killing half of your team(yes I stole that one from DoD:S :D)
    • Get ## flag caps(to further force teamplay)
    • Destroy ## tanks
    • Support an MG-Gunner with Ammo
    • Stay alive for ## minutes
    • Kill an enemy officer
I'd prefer Variant 2 as it would fit the realism of TWIs game much better and also deliver more fun and motivation without being unrealistic. For getting various Achiements you could for example get various medals which maybe then would be displayed on your character, if possible. But that's only a few suggestions, feel free to make some yourself!

It would also be important that there's a good mix of easy to get and harder achievements, so everyone gets satisfied.

Please vote and make your own suggestions.

Thanks

if there is going to be archievements the archievements will probably be handed out on the basis of statistics.

It would be nice if we could see

- average kills/min on a per weapon basis
- efficiency on a per weapon basis (bullets hit / bullets shot)
- average cap helping (capzones capped/total capzone caped by team)

stuff like that but not ranking based but with the ability to compare yourself to other players. So you can see where you must improve upon.

and based on this info other archievements could be handed out

having a high kills/min ratio
like weapon efficiency above X %
or having a high efficiency in cap helping

Perhaps you could get medals for it, or maybe statistics, but there shouldn't be a message of "you unlocked this and that achievement" onscreen. And definitely no weapon unlocks / customization.

I dunno, a tactical shooter can do without achievements imo. The satisfaction should come from playing together as a team, not getting achievements. It's not a bad idea (variant 2 that is), but I wouldn't mind without achievements.

Achievments based on statistics are hard to do, because once you f*** up a statistic real bad you'll have a very hard time to get it to a good status again.
Imagine emptying a ppsh mag in frustration or to celebrate a victory. That's 71 misses in your statistic you will have to balance out by playing real good. I don't think achievements like that would work very well.

Haha, I still remember the old days, when achievements were still called unlockables and they weren't tied to a system from MS but they were simply in the game and you could unlock something more or less interesting. :p
I share the view that there shouldn't be unlockable perks, weapons, skins and what-not.
It should either be done via medals as suggested earlier, but that would conflict with the realism (there is no real medal that is awarded to people who scored three head-shots while being in mid-air...) or it should simply state somewhere that you unlocked this and that achievement and maybe you can get some behind-the-scene pics of the crew or some historical lessons like in BiA:RtH30 or BiA:EiB.

Anyway, here are some others:
Kill 10 people with 2 clips of a bolt-action rifle.
Kill 5 people with one clip of a bolt-action rifle from the hip.
Kill seven people with the bayonette without dying.
Kill someone with a charged bayonette via rifle-butt or pistol-whip.
Kill an enemy who is farther than 250m away.
Kill an enemy who is farther than 400m away.
(Steal three weapons of your teammates' hands...:p)
Pick up three MGs from enemies you killed.
Pick up three sniper rifles from enemies you killed.
Stay alive for one round.
Stay alive for two rounds in succession.
Help capturing all the objectives on the map without killing someone while you are in one.
Help capturing all the objectives on the map without killing someone while you are not in one.
Kill 10 enemies with grenades without dying (you may pick up additional ones from the ground).

If you need achievements to unlock features = no thanks
If not = "whatever, man"

Game achievements are for nerds. 'nuff said.

Another suggestion:

-Spend a weekend in front of your PC.

I think it's an interesting idea but doubt it would be worth the effort, although what you said about the medals is kind of cool.

<3 the Star Wars reference in the poll. "This little one's not worth your trouble. Come, let me buy you a drink."

I say no achievements, but, that being said, I really wouldn't mind them as long as you don't unlock anything by earning them. Weapons/equipment unlocks have absolutely NO place in a realistic tactical FPS (especially one that I am ASSUMING will have a class system similar to the one in RO). IMHO, you have weapon unlocks and you start rewarding players who play for a long time or are very good, which just doesn't work well with a game like RO.

I am not fond of the whole "Achievement" idea, especially if it involves unlocking features.

If it just gives you medals that are really only for show and that is it, I could live with that as long as it doesn't interfere with my gaming experience.

I don't approve of achievements in MP at all unless they encourage teamwork.

I.e captured an objective with xxx members of your squad etc

Unless a title has a lot of hidden content (and is therefore being milked for playtime, usually trying to compensate for something) I don't see the point in them.

I don't really see the point of achievements. They're pretty much just a gimmick to prolong play time and I've never really thought 'Hey, I want this in RO!'.

Just get rid of the Scoreboard, now that would be an achievement.

Not sure how personnel achievements will help the team-play aspect of the game (RO) in multi-player, (the reason that most of us are here in the first place).

For the Console &/or Single player element it would be interesting never the less.

No vote for the moment...

I say go for it. But I wouldnt class achievements as a must have.

COD4 did it extremely well. But I think the game would have been just as good without it!
