ive played both games, both games are good, but why does bf3 run 100 times better on my comp than ro2? still feel like im playing a beta. shot a guy in the head yesterday, all of the sudden i got 50 achievements for shooting in a tank...I think this game is awesome and I think ill wait for some cool mods. I played more dh than ro1 in the end anyway.

The thing I find baffling though is why did it step into the COD style anyway.. It had a successful blueprint in the first game..

Dice have just released a beta for game that doesnt push the fps anywhere new but they couldn't have if they wanted too.If the dice devs wanted to try something new the EA board would cack themselves and tell them to just "re do what sells"

But tripwire never had those hadcuffs.. They knew what worked, so why did they move away from it..Is it the engine?

Yeah, and notice how, in game, the distances seem somehow to be at least DOUBLED? People look like ants from end-to-end of that small park, and running those tiny distances takes forever. Fallen Fighers is in reality one, small city block that seems to be half a mile long and a quarter mile wide during game play.

Riflemen have to go pixel hunting with one lousy shot across that narrow park width-wise (and pray that the hit detection works, the first shot actually fires, there's no lag/latency ...), while the rest just aim in that general direction and spray it full of lead. Everything about the game seems designed to make the rifleman a liability, as opposed to the majority, backbone of the German Heer which he actually was!

Have you noticed the size of the train cars, or the windows on that picture and compared them to the size a human would have? They would be very tiny on that model, so it is long distances that is represented there, and the sizes in the maps seems very appropriate according to that image.

These are my questions also. RO was special because it was different from the mass market games. From a marketing/business view I find thier design decisions with RO2 to be very poor. It's like a winemaker decided to make a soda/wine hybrid and take on Pepsi/Coke. Why?

Idk, at least I'll get what I payed for. No lies and false promises. ;)
Thats the reason im playing BF3 now, doesnt feel like I was scammed. :)
Might come back to RO2 once some realisticool mods come out with less run and gun, BF3 does that 10x better.

Black and sad future is the only I can see and it's sad ... so sad because I love this game .

Uh...yeah it does, game will appeal for a few weeks and then it's about as exciting as a brick to the face running the same old stuff day after day.

If that logic was true, this game is already "as exciting as a brick to the face running the same old stuff day after day". That would explain why everyone left I guess?

Lets wait till TWI is fixing all Bugs, decrease the hero classes in maybe 1 per side and the Community brings out some nice maps. Than the strategical gameplay comes back. There are many new people in this game, that dont even know that the primary goal in this game is to hold or to capture things. Lets wait and be patient, because Ro2 has some realy nice features that are very good. And too all Bf3 lovers, dont waste your time in this forum go and play your 60 Euro, Dollars Game and enjoy it, now in Bf3 you can prone, you have no Modtools, no Communitymaps etc. I own BC2, and i have played it only a few ours, such a terrible gameplay, where all running arround or driving alone no teamplay nothing. A few days ago i have played the Forgotten hope mod for Bf2, thats totaly crap, players move like they have **** in their pants, too huge maps, no real firefights nothing. Peace

I remain optimistic.

Tripwire have shown they at least care about the community. That is based on past releases and the support they have given them on a continual basis.

Bugs and fixes will come out. New content is due in the future and new mods.

Frankly, I am not too bothered that people are going to play BF3 - if they are having fun there that is fine - that game suits them. It just does not suit me.

If someone wants to come on here and say how great BF3 and how crap ROH is, I wonder why they are actually bothering to come on here. I cannot take a persons opinion seriously if they cannot conduct themselves in a mature manner. That goes equally for positive and negative posts.

Whenever new people tried RO in numbers , a free weekend, for example, there were always people saying how rubbish it was but then we also had great people joining.

As to numbers, yes it may have gone down but as has been mentioned, some people are having a break whilst everything gets fixed.

What is important to me in the game may not be important to others. e.g the stats system. To me I am not fussed with it but to someone else that is a game breaker.

When I think of the number of games that were released and are still broken and then think of those that were fixed over time, Tripwire is not an exception.

With the games they've done in the past...sometimes it's not the release, plagued by problems and detractors, that sells the game but the evidence of long-term support. Free DLC, free weekends, discounts and such.

People are so used to games not doing as well as expected at release and companies going POOF overnight. TWI owns up to their games, whether they're meeting expectations or not...and that ends up bringing customers in.

When people try RO2 with none of the release hype and release problems to deal with, I think it will find many new fans.

well TW wanted to enter the "arcade shooter" market and they partly did. now there finding out they cant compete because the other games are better at it. maybe they should have stuck with their old RO1 market that would have made sure their game lived forever instead of the arcade market that will ditch this game in about a month.

finally some 1 tries to give us some improvement in game play , some news in FPS, new cover in fps, and a lot more details that we see in RO2 , a improvement in the most important area, the game play.

NEW takes time, and hard work.

now BF3 has same game play as Counter Strike 1.0, new visual stuff, some vehicles like BF1, and the most important part is the same as 10 year old games -> game play.

RO2 tries to do some think new, BF3 tries to looks new, in the end u play RO2 for years, and BF3 u just wait for the next big CoD, BF, etc.

I like CoD, BF:BC2, BF3, BF2, have tons of fun o CoD and BF games, they are all vry good games, some ppl like 1 more than another, but after some time, they are easy to forget.

Red Orchestra is unique.
make exception for the first CoD's and BF1 they are unique too, in their times.

sry the bad english.

i blame this:

rogame20110924203321699.jpg

The servers are becoming empty, because the players that like to play in a storm of bullets are moving on to games that are better at that.

I still remember when this game was centered in Twi's glorious Gunplay. And i mean THIS one, RO2, not ROOST. That was the game i bought and i loved it. I really did.

I even encouraged a few people to buy it, and i wasnt even a red orchestra vet. Now i've stopped, because for frustrating full auto, i have other games, that i also dont like to play.

Well, guess its lesson learned. First time i ever preordered, wont do it again.

I kept playing BF1942 for years. Why? Mods. I enjoyed desert combat a ton (was a beta tester for it towards the end), and after that I played a sinful amount of forgotten hope (played it for many years). Vanilla BF1942? Stopped playing it the moment mods came out.

When BF2 came out, I bought it. Why? Because of mods. Primarily because forgotten hope was being made for it. Stopped playing vanilla BF2 the moment the first FH2 version was released. And I still play FH2 to this day (really looking forward to the eastern front that's to be added next!).

Will I buy BF3? No. No mods means for me there really isn't any appeal to for me.

Throughout all this time, I've played RO. First as a ut2003 mod, then as a ut2004 mod, then as the retail. And finally as darkest hour. Why have I played it so long, and continue to play it? because like forgotten hope it has been constantly changing, improving and adding new content. For literally years.

The point I'm making is that it's mods and custom maps that bring longevity. It's also what separates PC games from console games. Many people will surely flood away from RO2 to play BF3. But I'm equally sure plenty enough will stay. And after the DLC's are offered for BF3 (all for $15 or so), BF3 is going to get very stale, very quickly.

I cannot predict the future. But I suspect years from now I'll be happily playing RO2 in some form. And I'm fairly sure I won't be alone.

I too think that I will play something based on RO2 in the future, but the second a mod comes out which suits my needs I will never look back and also won

The future of RO2 will depend on the modders.

The offering by TWI is half for arcaders, and half for wargamers.

Wargamers are what kept RO alive. When the arcaders move on to the next game, the wargamers will remain, but they will certainly be disgusted by the arcade nature of RO2.

RO2 long-term life depends on a modder that creates the game that the RO faithful will want to play for years to come.
