While my game is set in full screen mode it only takes up a small part of my screen, with black areas filling the rest of my screen. Any ideas about what I can do?

you could try playing around with your under/overscan settings of your graphics card driver

edit: you should also consider posting more information such as your GPU, what driver you use and how you monitor is connected to your GPU.
Let me make a educated guess: AMD/ATI card connected via HMDI?

make sure you aren't hitting the F11 button

Oh men better F11 than ALT/TAB/Delete trying to exit game to get to desktop and boom crash....F11 can be usefull, not in his case though if he is hitting it by accident, which would fix it by pressing the F11 key again and go back to full screen mode again.

I have some icons on the screen cut in half or so, in the upper right corner.
It's kinda like the game display a tad higher resolution than I'm running.
Witch btw is the standard 1080 - 1920 - 16-9

try deleting ROGame folder and start up the game with fresh new install of it and see if that helps, probably something got changed or corrupted with the new patches.

Try the console command to set the resolution, press F3 to open the small console and type this followed by Enter :

Setres 1920x1080

Replace 1920x1080 by your screen resolution and see if it helps , also check if in the settings the aspect/ratio is correct ( 4/3 - 16/9 ... )

Hope this helps a bit
