Is it possible to OPTIONALLY only show friendly player names when you press the HUD on Demand button?

Knowing the names of friendly players is crucial for communication, so you can yell out to them. But seeing those names above friendlies all the times is not only taking away from the immersion of the game, it actually often blocks my view when trying to fire and a friendly is just in front of me.

So since the cap zones and HUD functions are only showcased when you press the HUD on demand button , it would be nice to OPTIONALLY see the friendly soldier player names only when you press the HUD on demand button.

*Note: I'm not implying any change in the strict sense of the word to how far you can see friendly soldiers names and when. Just to OPTIONALLY only make it pop-up when you press that button.

Agreed. I think that it should be for only visible players though, like names shouldnt be hovering above someone's head who's in another room. It would look quite out of place with names everywhere - if you know what I mean
But thats all up to you guys, I'm quite indifferent about it but would prefer if it were only guys you could actually see.

How it shows should be the exact same as its now in my opinion, aka not showing friendlies through rooms and not showing friendlies that are too far away.

The only difference it when it should show, aka instead of always showing all friendly soldiers their names. Only show it when you press the HUD on demand button.

No. Defiantly not. I dont want to press a button every time just to see whos in front of me or something. The old system is fine, or why not how MW2 does it? MW2 has a nice name tag thing sytem

I don't think you must press a button every time you want to see a player name. The button should work as on/off, so just don't press the button to turn it off and you always will see player names.
I agree with the idea of a button to turn off player names.

This suggestion is of personal preference it could be made a toggle within the menu. To either have it say show up when you press the hud on demand button or to always show them.

I want to see names when i need to communicate, but otherwise i would prefer to not have green names floating above the heads of soldiers. As it breaks my immersion with the game.

A toggle option in the main menu would be nice, although I would still be happy enough with the old ROOST system.

I think that the names need to be a bit bigger or bolder as the naming system in ROOST imo makes it hard to see at times due to the small font

i really like the idea...

of course the conditions for drawing player names should stay the same..

-only draw name of players in your sights.
-if friendly is too far away, dont draw name.
-ect.

of course the font should be readable on bright backgrounds... (a black outline, maybe?) same goes for the scoreboard...(in RO:OST its sometimes really hard to read (kaukasus round finished screen + scoreboard = unreadable))

agreed

agreed

It is totally unrealistic to have names floating over people's heads, the original system worked great and should not be changed in my opinion.

Euhm in the original system you have names floating above the heads of the players at all times, and with my suggestion only when you press the tactical view button.

Aka with my suggestion you do not see any names of players above their heads at all, unless you press the tactical view button which means that you see names above the heads of players in the same way to how it is now.

So if you find it unrealistic to have names floating over people's heads, then I do not see why you would prefer the current system over the suggested system. As you will actually have less names floating above the heads of players.

I just often get annoyed that i cannot see where the enemy is because the names of friendly players are blocking my view. So I want to have the ability to not see friendly player names when I do not need them. Next to that I find friendly player names to be big immersion breakers for me, so I would rather not see them unless I need to see them.

It's also totally unrealistic not to know the name or face of your squad mate in a real army.

When I first started playing RO, I teamkilled a ton cause I had to be 10 feet away form a guy or looking directly at him in a certain radius to see his name tag and I couldn't tell uniforms apart D:<

I think the Names plus HUD on demand would coop well. Maybe the names wouldn't be able to show at a far radius when pressing H.O.D. But it would give a small arrow letting you know that a mate is there? And it would give names for people in a closer radius.

What? In the original ROOST names aren't floating all the time, only when you look at someone and there like 10 ft away do names actually show. Thats why theres so much TKing. Please Tripwire dont change the system. It is fine the way it is now.

And what Im suggesting is to only show the exact same thing as you see now but then only when you press the tactical view button. So that friendlies within a 10ft radius of you (its actually isn't a 10 feet radius btw) won't always have a name floating above their head basically blocking your view and ruining the immersion.

All I'm asking here is the option to basically never see the friendly player names appear unless I want to see them and then press the tactical view button. I don't see how you interpret that as if I supposedly suggested pressing a button to magically see where your team mates are behind multiple walls at a 5km distance.

Well right now there not always floating there anyway. Right now they only pop up if you look at them. I dont want to have to be looking at someone and hit the tactical button at the same time.

there are different stages.

You have the close and distance range for how far you can see friendly players.

- For the distance range you need to look at a friendly for X time units to see his name pop up.
- For the close range one, a friendly must be within a radius of you for X time units before his name pops up.

But the reason for suggesting it is primarily again to not have a friendly players name block your view which often happened to me. If you are for instance aiming crouched next to a prone player with a long name. His name will show up in the center of your screen.

And seeing those names all the times is a massive immersion breaker for me at least if you look at the old alpha rohos videos.

With the fov zoom and increased ranges, and in order to increase teamwork, i would absolutely not be surprised if TWI would increase the range where you can see friendly players to a range where you could normally recognize a person.

Anyway things are getting offtopic, this original suggestion wasn't a bout any change whatsoever to system of when you can see a friendly players name. Its about allowing a player to not show those names till someone presses the button.

I like the idea of the toggle, but it should be an option that you can set. Allow the player to keep it the same as it is in ROOST, or set an option to use a toggle as Zets suggested.
