hey this is directed to the creators of RO.

I have been an interested buyer for some time now but with there being no demo and never played it before i am not sure about getting the game.
I know I'm almost as tight as they come... I would love for you to have a weekend where the price is dropped or a demo/free weekend then i could make up my mind and if it is a good game which I have heard id pay the full price.

Even if you could give me a guest pass :D.

Anyway keep up the good work and please don't post here if you are going to post stupid comments... like "buy it" but i would like to hear what your pro and cons of the game are.

Thanks Ace.

TWI has done many free weeks/weekends as well as price drops, the latest being only a few months ago for the D-Day weekend.

If you have UT2004 you can download the Red Orchestra mod for it. It's Red Orchestra: Ostfront's predecessor and it's very similar to it. That's the closest you are going to get to a demo.

You can check youtube for some gameplay videos of Ostfront as well. Just know that frag-videos give a bit of a distorted outlook on RO since they mainly show kills and not the slower phases in between.

If you do one of those two you should get a good idea of what the gameplay is like. If you want to know if you can run the game, post your specs and we'll tell you how well it will perform for you. Not quite as good as first hand demo experience, I know, but it's better than nothing.
As the game is dirt cheap by now this should be all you need to evaluate it.

thanks, I'll look into the UT2004 and mod. also is it possible to get a guest pass?

Specs:
MacBook Pro (newest model and using Boot Camp)
2GB RAM
XP Media Center Edu. Sp2
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB RAM
That's all I think you need... If you do need more please specify.

Thanks for this.

I think the guest passes expired a while ago and there were no new ones, but I'm not sure.

I also think RO:Ostfront doesn't run on a mac because it uses steam and steam doesn't work on one. I don't know how up to date this information is. EDIT: Forget about that. Steam works on macs with bootcamp. RO should run too.

Your dual core isn't supported though as far as I know, so you'll be using only one core. I don't know how fast one of them is, but I'd say it should operate at at least 2GHz (read: 2GHz p4 equivalent). If the RO-mod runs, then RO:Ostfront should run just about as good. Some of the custom-maps and some of the maps of mods have a lower performance.
Alternatively you can test UT2004 ONS maps. RO runs about as good as the bigger ones.

Don't quote me on this but I believe when somebody buys the game new now, we give them 2 guest passes. Don't hold me to that though.

well my mac can run TF2, HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Portal, Gmod, DOD:S, CS:S, COD4, Dark Messiah: Might And Magic and Grid.

Also the CPU runs at 2.4GHz and what do you mean not supported?
is it all dual cores or just a selected few?

Not supported = does not use both cores. Only uses one core, so you basically run a 2.4 GHz processor, as far as RO is concerned.

But you may get the benefit of background tasks running on the Other core(s), so RO isn't sharing it's core with all the other tasks at the same time. A small boost.

I meant is it my brand/ model of CPU or is it just the game that doesn't support Duel Core CPU's?

and does anyone have a Guest pass the would be willing to let me borrow :)

...

I can confirm, having purchased this two weeks ago, that you get two 10-day passes with the game. If I hadn't used them both I would be happy to throw one your way.

All in all, it's 20 bucks. Stop being so cheap and buy the game.

yeah i might just get it, its just i have tried every game before I brought it and I am looking at some other games so I'm not quiet sure.. I have a felling its going to be on the lines of COD, DOD:S or CS:S. Another FPS unlike TF2 recreates it completely.

Using Boot Camp it will run fine. While you are on the middle of the spectrum your performance should be ok. You may have to play with graphics settings to get the best fps and performance.

I game using a MacPro 5 GB RAM an ATI X1900 under Windows XP. It's just hunky dory.

I'm generally a gamer who enjoys CS, DoD, and CoD style pseudo-realistic frag-heavy twitch shooters.

RO is completely unlike any of the games you listed, and by all standards I really shouldn't enjoy it. But I've played it each day since purchasing - even if I stop tomorrow it's worth the $20. RO's main differences are the greatly extended ranges of combat and the various 'realism' quirks that generally slow down the gameplay considerably.

And while I don't really understand your last sentence - TF2 owns as well. It's also a different experience, though.
