The new patch ruined it.
Getting crappy performance again.

In the latest BETA patch, game ran smooth, averaged on 30-50 FPS on all maps. And indicator was that when the game was loaded, on the main screen I had around 210 fps. Now with the new retail patch, all of it is gone again. Main screen is at 70-110 fps and ingame performance is completly ruined. Getting 10-15 average. Oh and crashed on pavlov after 30 seconds.

WTF tripwire, why is the beta patch running smooth and the retail completely bombed it?

This is my PC:

AMD Athlon Dual 2.6GHz
4GB RAM
GF GTX465 1GB
Vista 32
(Do not ask about fragmentation of my hard drive, driver updates or how much pron I download, because then I will slap you)
All on medium settings.

Must be something sound or CPU related.
I would like to point out again:
The latest BETA runs flawlessly, just started it to verify. But the latest retail patch runs just as crappy as last weeks.
I am quite angry now. Was looking forward to play this game smooth finally.

That's hardly an excuse for TI to reduce performance in a patch...

maybe but it is difficult for a developer to make it run smooth on such lowend cpu (2.6 Ghz A64 dual core is really slow compareable with a core2duo @1.6-1.8ghz) without messing it up (reducing details significantly) for everyone with a "normal" cpu

Try higher settings I run higher fps in ultra than in medium(strange I know)I keep foliage on low tho.The u3 engine forces more cpu loads on lower settings .
In nvidia options set maximum pre rendered frames to 0 or 1 also set physX to gpu and use hardware physics in game (it helps me)

Also in your ROengine file at the very bottom of the page change cpu setting to this "CompatLevelCPU=4" the default should be 5.(setting it to 3 may help even more "not sure")

If that don't work try these guides

does the beta run a different configuration than retail? Are you sure your settings are the same...?

I will say that some maps do seem worse. I know I was getting 25 fps with redoctoberfactory in that center area where the fire was. Spartanovka was very smooth and fast though.

Both ran on the same settings, because when I downloaded the beta the settings were already like in the retail. Means they both use the same ini files.

I would liek to state that the performance in the BETA was not caused by any map specific stuff. I could verify by simply looking straight at the sky.

In the BETA I got like 60fps
In retail it was between 20-25

I would suggest TWI looks what is different from the latest beta compared to this version related to CPU.

i wonder why twi has a 2.6ghz 4 core processor as the recommended one? that's so close to the minimum it doesn't make sense. i wouldn't have tried with your processor. it's been known, for as long as i can remember, (and that goes over twenty years) if you're at or near the minimum, it's not gonna run good.

  • Minimum
    • OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
    • Processor: Dual Core 2.3 GHz or better
    • Memory: 2 GB
    • Graphics: 256 MB SM 3.0 DX9 Compliant NVIDIA

I tried most of these tweaks weeks ago and they did not help. Also, my performance issue is clearly something CPU related, because

1. Both versions (beta and retail) run the same ini file
2. If I increase all video settings to max I only get a 5 fps performance hit.

The problem is in the actual program code and can not be fixed with ini tweks.

as close as that cpu is to the minimum reccomendations, i wonder why you bought the game at all? it's been known for as long as i can remember (and that goes over twenty years) if you're at or near the minimum, it's not gonna run good.

It's hardly unreasonable to expect the retail game to run as good, if not better, than the beta. He could have cancelled the pre-order if it didn't run well.

I do not need any advice regarding getting better hardware because it is not my hardware's fault that I get a 66% performance loss from the latest retail patch.
I had smooth 45 average even on larger maps and now I got 10-15

The problem is clearly CPU bound because

GFX settings haev little effect
The fps in main menu is already gone down from 210 to 70-110
In all maps, when looking straight at the sky, the performance only gets a little better and averages at 25 fps (RETAIL)

we'll have to wait and see what happens, i guess. if a lot of people say it runs worse now, we got a problem. most reports so far are favorable. i know mines running like a scalded cat now. i couldn't be happier at how much better the game runs. maybe all those hours spent testing the patched beta brought me good karma.

Perhaps it has something to do with the playercount?

When I played the Beta in the last days most of the time there were only 10 -20 people on the server.

Have you tested your performance on a empty server in the retail version yet?

Have you removed your old .ini-files? I got less fps after patch too until I removed my old tweaked ini's.
Actually much better now. And I haven't even tweaked anything except putting settings back ingame.
AthlonII Duo 2.8 oc'd 3.1

Running shadows on high instead of medium now also. Goodbye blobby poleshadows :)
