P.s. i have Vsync off obviously :D

turn off fps smoothing.

And get a Nvidia card.

From what I;ve read, Nvidia card do much, much, much, better than their AMD/ATI counterparts.

Good job being biased, TWI.

I hope either TWI or AMD will fix this in upcoming patches/drivers.

may want to clock your CPU even more; chip can hit 4.5-5.0 pretty easily.
Should try to hit 4.0 atleast.

Checkout GURU3D for updated beta drivers for your cards.

Wouldn;t make any difference.

The game doesn't even max out 1 core on mine.

Hello.
I just downloaded the beta and played it.
The first thing I recognized was that the graphics looks very blurry.
Okay I thought, It`s a beta, not the fullgame yet.

Then I watched how many FPS I have, because it went not that fluently like Battlefield Bad Company 2.

I had 40-50 fps, when I recorded 30-40 fps...
That is a thing that hopefully will be changed in the full game!

My system:
Windows 7 64bit
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
Intel Core I5-2500k @ 3.3GHz
Sapphire Radeon 6950 HD

Even the Battlefield 3 Alpha, which graphics are ways more challenging brought more than 50 fps, actually 60fps when I am recording.

So one question: Why are the fps that low? :)

Spocki

Could the blurriness be caused by using a low resolution?

What? You might be missing the whole point of overclocking the system, it isnt just cpu mhz you get; the entire system opens up with the overclock (memory, bus, etc).

Clock that chip; its almost wasted if it isnt ;).

Guru3d drivers will help you out def if you havent gotten the latest beta though.

Could you link me?

The latest I could find on Guru, is the 11.8 AMD drivers, which have been released by AMD to the public some time ago

I tried bSmoothFrameRate false but i still only get 66
why make things complicated? go to game options > video > deselect fps smoothing and make sure you click "back". if you simply his escape to go back to main menu, your settings WILL NOT stick.

with sandy bridge, only the CPU is overclocked, the RAM and everything else can be overclocked individually.

And there is a difference between not maxing a core at 3.3GHz, and not maxing a core at 4.5GHz.

I have every single setting on ultra (except for aa I'm using FXAA High) on a mid range ati card (6850) and it plays extremely smoothly. I'm running at 1680x1050 and I get a nice 60 fps. The game runs fine on my ati card, people with cards like the 6950 getting poor fps sounds like a bug of some sort, and definitely not the game being "biased".

I figured out why the graphics are blurry, which is an obvious one..... the original graphics settings are set to low. Crank them higher and things start to crisp up.

However, my real concern is no matter what I set, even on the lowest settings, the damn game is chuggy and slow as hell, graphic-wise.

Specs:
Intel Quad Core i5 - 2.80GHz
8 Gig of RAM
Windows 7 64-bit OS
Nvidia GeForce 210 - 4 Gig of RAM

Works perfectly fine on all my other games.

Is there a spot in the config files to adjust your DirectX?
Lulz pretty hard to have a port when the PC version is the ONLY version ... I got a laugh out of your post, so thanks for that.

No one is denying performance issues. The game clearly needs optimizing work. For some reason the DDE beta actually runs quite a bit better than any of the previous Beta Tester builds I worked with before that, so it's important to note that not everyone is having horrible issues.

One major tip I can give to people from my BT experience, is to turn shadows down to medium or low -- this can have a HUGE impact on your FPS, with hardly any loss in visual quality. I can't stress this enough.

Just remember that if there is a serious issue with the game like performance that everyone is talking about, TWI is paying attention ;)

I have a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz/4gb ddr2 4-4-4-12 Ram/GTX470 OCed (even more with raised voltages). I can run Metro 2033 at 60fps with everything maxed and no I am not exaggerating, but this game on the outdated UE3 for some magical reason I can't? Come on.

I have the latest drivers for everything. I have seen people with lesser PC specs than mine that can run this game at ultra with 60fps, while I am stuck with 30fps.

This is a horrendous port and frankly I'm disappointed. There is no way that in 2 weeks this game will be optimized. This game is trying to draw in the console crowd and has taken the PC port for granted, it is a shame. I love RO:1, but this is horrendous.

Don't believe that this is a port? There is a Xbox360 folder in the RO2 beta folder, that is how big of a joke this is.

Refund already requested, never again. Maybe when it hits $5 in a year or so.

(I tried posting a thread about this, but I doubt a moderator will approve it.)

Stupidest post all day. Metro 2033 takes place in tiny maps with little to nothing, almost no ballistics at all. Of course it will run better - there is nothing to process compared to a game like RO2. Keep in mind this is a beta as well. And there are no plans to release RO2 on consoles if I recall correctly... probably a folder for Xbox 360 controllers or something.

Those of you experiencing odd FPS, have you updated the your Motherboard drivers? (chipset drivers).

Windows 7 has decent drivers for most motherboards these days. Vista and XP you need to install these yourself, as XP does not have a good driver database, and Vista is ... vista :p YMMV.

Sometimes re-installing video drivers after fulling cleaning old ones can help if it is a driver issue. Happened to me with Witcher 2, went from 14 fps to 50+.

I run this game butter smooth. You guys saying its the coding need to make adjustments. Very few games come tweaked perfectly out of the box. Some games also run smooth at 70-100 fps compared to others that I need 150fps to be happy.

There are tons of tweaks for the UE3 engine. There is a reason people spend hours tweaking their system if they want a silky smooth experience.

What did you do? :)

Well I dropped my Resolution down, turned off all of the fancy effects.... wait one second:

rogame2011-09-0120-27-09-17.jpg

I also went into:
C:\Users\Yourself\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\ROGame\Config\...

Opened up the "ROEngine" config file, I then made the following Changes:

AllowD3D10=False (I think this is already set this way though, but double check)

^ Determines whether RO2 Forces DirectX 10

AllowMLAA=False

AllowFXAA=False

^ Anti-Aliasing Turned Off.

There were a number of settings through the config file that I tweaked as well, such as gamma and certain lighting settings.

DisplayGamma=2.5 (You may want to lower or increase this to something else. I think the default is 2.2)

My Frame Rates are still pretty crappy, but I can still kill people pretty damn good..... and I worked with far less back when I played Team Fortress Classic with a 33.6k Modem and an ATI 8MB Video Card.

I was stuck using 320x240 Hardware Resolution and a crappy 300+ ping.... but I still kicked everybody's butt.

Though when I jumped back into RO1 and Killing Floor.... and BF:BC2, I could see the difference in FPS that I'm dealing with in RO2.... So I am looking into a new Video Card. I imagine if I dropped my resolution down even further, the FPS would increase.... which wouldn't be a problem for me, so I'll try that later on.

The problem is, all of the "Better" video cards at a decent price only have 1 gig or RAM at best..... where my current GeForce 210 has 4 gigs..... and I did just buy the system only a couple of months ago and feel it's be a shame to lose that 4gig power and whatever that video card could do for me.

Is there a way you can add in a new video card and keep the other one in as a tie-in to the new one, to give an even better boost in performance, such as utilizing the processing power and RAM from the old card with the new one?

q9550 2.8 ghz
4gb ram
5850

i get 30-65 fps all high 1920x1080 (no hardware pysich e no ambient occlusion)

Hey Apparo89..... way to steal my Avatar ;)

Lulz pretty hard to have a port when the PC version is the ONLY version ... I got a laugh out of your post, so thanks for that.

Wtf are you going on about? I didn't say anything regarding porting RO2 to anything other than the PC. In the post you quoted of mine, I was talking about graphical settings in the beta currently and with the system specs I currently have on my computer......

Or did you mean to quote the original poster, because that seems to relate more to your response than what I was talking about?

Settings are all high or maxed, res is 1080p. Only things I have changed from Ultra setting default are shadows (Backed down a click), AA (Running Medium or Low, I should just run low for the extra FPS, not like you can really see the difference that much during gameplay) and Ambient Occlusion / Framerate smoothing. Doing so, I am sitting at a very solid (and smooth) 65+ FPS.

Oh, and FX quality. Also on normal post processing.

Did a test last night, cranked EVERYTHING to Ultra + all settings on, net 35 FPS min on Apartments.

I was though shocked to see that Bloom + Light Shafts didn't make near the difference I expected.

All of this on a 64 man server that was full or near enough. I'd say that is about as expected for a game that has to be a bit CPU hungry.
