Hello.
I just downloaded the beta and played it.
The first thing I recognized was that the graphics looks very blurry.
Okay I thought, It`s a beta, not the fullgame yet.

Then I watched how many FPS I have, because it went not that fluently like Battlefield Bad Company 2.

I had 40-50 fps, when I recorded 30-40 fps...
That is a thing that hopefully will be changed in the full game!

My system:
Windows 7 64bit
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
Intel Core I5-2500k @ 3.3GHz
Sapphire Radeon 6950 HD

Even the Battlefield 3 Alpha, which graphics are ways more challenging brought more than 50 fps, actually 60fps when I am recording.

So one question: Why are the fps that low? :)

Look at my sig and i also get lowish FPS,when i play on ultra everything maxed out they go from 35-50,when i set all on high with AA on low then it stays steady 60-65FPS...

game needs little more work towards optimizing, dont forget its BETA so we are suppose to help out in getting the game better

I am very very afraid. There's 2 weeks to release and I can't see the engine being optimized in terms of performance in that time, what with all the bugs, both major and minor, people have been listing here.

I'm sorry sir, but are you a software engineer?

What are you basing your statements on?

It might as well be a bug in the engine, so please refrain from blurring out assumptions on the forum. There are still people here, who haven't bought the game yet and I don't want to see them scared away.

You can complain when the game is RELEASED, this is a beta. Please understand this

I have a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz/4gb ddr2 4-4-4-12 Ram/GTX470 OCed (even more with raised voltages). I can run Metro 2033 at 60fps with everything maxed and no I am not exaggerating, but this game on the outdated UE3 for some magical reason I can't? Come on.

I have the latest drivers for everything. I have seen people with lesser PC specs than mine that can run this game at ultra with 60fps, while I am stuck with 30fps.

This is a horrendous port and frankly I'm disappointed. There is no way that in 2 weeks this game will be optimized. This game is trying to draw in the console crowd and has taken the PC port for granted, it is a shame. I love RO:1, but this is horrendous.

Don't believe that this is a port? There is a Xbox360 folder in the RO2 beta folder, that is how big of a joke this is.

Refund already requested, never again. Maybe when it hits $5 in a year or so.

(I tried posting a thread about this, but I doubt a moderator will approve it.)

I figured out why the graphics are blurry, which is an obvious one..... the original graphics settings are set to low. Crank them higher and things start to crisp up.

However, my real concern is no matter what I set, even on the lowest settings, the damn game is chuggy and slow as hell, graphic-wise.

Specs:
Intel Quad Core i5 - 2.80GHz
8 Gig of RAM
Windows 7 64-bit OS
Nvidia GeForce 210 - 4 Gig of RAM

Works perfectly fine on all my other games.

Is there a spot in the config files to adjust your DirectX?

Performance has been a problem since always. You can try a couple of things to boost your framerate though. First, drop shadows to low, which will barely be noticeable in visual terms. Second, framerate smoothing may help boost your fps. Also, type "umbra culling" into the console. It won't give you any confirmation of having typed it, but it will disable the function and potentially your framerate will go up. If that works though, you have to do it every time you load the game, as it defaults to "on".

That was a general fix for all Steam games that use Steam stats tracking.

Hey, man, your problem is your videocard.

Check this out:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2939/3

You can see right there your videocard is pushing less frames than an nVidia 9500 GT....which is a last generation sub-$100 budget card. The GeForce 210 is a low-end card. That's easily the weak link in your spec sheet because the rest of your computer is nuts.

I'm astonished you can even run it with that card. You're probably just going to have to upgrade.

There's a lot of easy sub-$100 solutions now that can probably run this game just fine, for instance most of the other cards in that comparison are beneath $100, and an nVidia 9800 GT has been at or around $100 for the better part of this year.

Turn off the bloom and that motion blur, game looks much better then imo. Got it at ultra, shadow on high and 60fps the whole time (vsync on).

This is the problem when people start whining about the release date. Let the developers do their job and then everyone will be happy when the game ships...

Thanks, I'll give that a try.... I can't even beta test properly cuz I can't really do much game-wise.

Just got off a server with some buttholes telling people to play the game, cuz "this isn't a beta testing server"

That's the whole damn point of the beta.... oh well.... now I just have to figure out where I go to host/listen my own game so I can test things without having people complaining I'm testing..... cripes.

I'll let you know the results of your above suggestions. Once again, thanks.

Well I just bought this system only a few months ago, and I don't remember it telling me it was a 210 before until recently when I let Nvidia update my drivers and suddenly it changed.

I have zero issues maxing out my graphics for any of my other games, the newest being BF:BC2... I specifically got this computer for graphic design, 3D modeling, animation, video editing, etc..... and I have no issues whatsoever with anything else except this..... so I'm wondering if the Nvidia auto scan thing gave me the wrong drivers for my video card.

Added:

Ok, I got my settings to something decent and playable now.... had a lot of friggin around to do. Not sure if that Umbra Culling thing helped or not, as I didn't use it on all maps and not much seemed to change.

So other than the graphics being generally optimized, I don't have any major complaints about the beta thus far. I can pick people off pretty easily and get killed just as easily, which is what I'd expect from RO.
