It's capped to prevent FPS exploits.

Although for some strange reason mine is capped at 90 after one of the updates.

Now what would be the point of that? Stressing your computer just for fun?

You wont notice a difference between 80~ and 800~

its so that the fps didnt match my monitor hz as i want to play with vsync off and no tearing.

but i got it sorted now.

a frame rate of 60 (75) is good enough for any game, the main reason is ..

The display on the GPU card is achieved via 'block switching' display areas in VRAM. If your frame rate gets to high, the graphics (and cpu) processor does not have enough time to calc and draw all the info, thus never completion it's intended operation, streaking (or incomplete drawing) will result.

Slowing the frame rate gives the GPU enough time to draw the image and maybe more. Also a minor effect would be to keep the GPU processor cooler as it has a 'rest period' between frames. It'll last longer this way.

thanks for your help but its not about whats "enough" i just wanted the monitor to be unsynced from the frame rate be it higher or lower fps. its just how I've always played and its how i'm comfortable, i'm not looking for issues its just something i noticed straight away and wanted to change. luckily my crt supports 100hz @ the high res i want so no help is needed, thanks for the replies though.

Your FPS is locked to 85 max FPS in online play no matter what. In practise mode it can go as high as 999. And K_Freddie, this and the issue you're talking about are differend. You're talking about screen tearing which occurs when v-sync is not enabled.
