M99 is easy to properly rebalance without turning it into an XBow.


First, make the reload time long. As in, 3 to 4 seconds.

Then, make ammo cost 50-100 pounds per bullet, instead of 250.

Nerf its damage but buff its headshot multiplier, so you can't stun Scrakes on bodyshots and headshots become essential, even more so due to the long reload time.

Why not make the reload a bit longer than the FP rage animation? That would force them to land the second headshot on a fast moving target, and missing would likely involve being hit. Make it a bit more risk vs return :)

I don't know about such a huge weapon for commando and I'm not sure how i feel about the anti-tank rifle, but it does occur to me that if the M99 had no scope or was a weapon similar to the one presented (since an M99 with no optics is slightly odd) it would perhaps require more skill to use.
But I wouldn't really expect such a change.

No. I enjoyed playing with the m99 in its original IJC state, hated how TWI implemented the weapons and thought it was utterly stupid to "balance" a weapon by making it's rounds more expensive than a good part of the other weapons. Maybe we should just throw handcannons at the targets, that would hurt them too.

Also imo the m99 is the sniper rifle the sharpshooter DOESN'T need (because he doesn't need any) but the one that would be fun to use as opposed to the hunting rifle which is basically an expensive scope. HR < lar. HR < handguns. Only advantage being the scope which I don't care for at all as I rarely ads, if possible. The m99 looks like a badass sniper rifle, it sounds like a badass sniper rifle, it kicks like a badass sniper rifle and it hits like a badass sniper rifle. Everything that would make it usable again would be something I'd enjoy, although I understand that balancing it is rather hard.

The thing that bugs me most about the "just leave it" comment is that the IJC pack as a mutator was perfect, it was optional and it was great. Now they spent time and energy to implement it which caused very heated discussions and THEN you'd like to have it be another useless piece of junk that just clutters the trader interface? Remove it or balance it. Don't leave it in its current state.

I'm actually pretty satisfied with the M99 (though 5000 pounds to fill 'er up is a bit ridiculous.) It's just that people complain about it nonstop and it makes me feel like a tool when I use it.
If TWI could simply disable complaining I'd be fine with that too :I

Hmm..This one actually works as a viable solution to this presistent problem.

That was my idea originally. :p

But yes, I agree, the M99 is too powerful on body shots, which is stupid since it's supposed to be the most specialized piece of equipment to emphasize and reward getting headshots over all other sharpshooter weapons. And yet, the humble LAR is that very weapon for the job, sporting one of the highest headshot bonuses of the SS arsenal.
