The message you keep quoting is referring to the internal dates for completing functionality. In other words if internally the game would have all functionality completed by date X, we still plan on having it completed by date X. The difference is, now instead of having whatever time we were going to have for fixing bugs and polish after that, we now have an additional two weeks.

So I'm seeing a lot of people asking "why don't you just announce the date of the DDE beta"? Actually it is more along the lines of "you guys know when the beta will be, just tell us!!!" We do have a target date for the DDE beta, but it's not set in stone. What day it starts on depends on how quickly the current batch of bug fixing gets completed. In other words, if we give you a date right now and it moves, you'll just be disappointed. So we're going to wait until we're ready to announce the date. Those that ordered the DDE will get a lot of time with the game before it ships, and we'll give you a date as soon as WE have a firm date.

Ok, fair enough but:

We already have the first of the press in the Beta, with a

I just hope you Tripwire guys can keep the faith, mentally block out the whiney negative posts, and focus on being happy, tired programmers for just a little bit longer.

You can read the negative posts and respond on September 14.

1. We have never been given any date for beta access with DDE, the only thing "promised" is that it's beta access, i.e. before release.
2. TWI has stated that their internal schedule hasn't changed, they've only added two weeks of QA/bugfixing for things found in the beta. As far as I can tell from this, beta access for DDE hasn't actually been moved, the release date has. So grats, you got more beta time in which you can brag about how elite you were and then bash noobs with "I've been here since beta".
3. I want beta access too, but crying has never gotten anyone anything (unless you have bad parents) so no reason to do so now.
4. Reading between the lines, TWI has now gotten some gloves which will help Yoshi when serving tea (the kettle can be handled when hot). This will greatly speed up development.

Developers can never win:

They release the game early with bugs and get slaughtered on the forums.

They delay the release and get slaughtered on the forums.

I am still holding judgement, I played the orginal RO when it won the award many years ago, I didn't play it much as I never knew where I was going, I like mini maps.

This does look good, but I need to see some gameplay vids before I purchase.

And yes I will if it is good, get this and Bf3 and AOEO for my 2011 gaming (and fifa 12 on ps3)

Well a beta is supposed to have bugs right... right? :)

Nah, I think a delay is OK if it is for polish and I honestly think that the sooner that the large scale beta gets on the way the better.

From the FAQ statement it seemed to me that they simply have to prepare for a large scale beta. Having only some hundred press guys around may work now, but the huge amount of deluxe-preorders will necessitate some prepariations. They are not holding back on a whim.

Just giving everyone access now may just end in tears, so we will have to wait until preparations are complete.

Can you explain me why the press is getting earlier access? I mean if there are that many bugs why present them to the press?

The beta is a WIN WIN for TWI I myself will record some gameplay in full HD with settings maxed out with my GTX 580 so people can get pumped for the game and see some quality footage. Up till now its only been cam stuff.

The press always has early access to a game. It has been so since the dawn of print media and video games. They are used to (for the most part) how betas work and take that into account when writing their articles.

But the final score (which is often posted post launch now thanks to the internet), is based on the launched products state.

Beta builds always have bugs. Hence most of the release versions have bugs. But those are mostly pretty minor things (still can be annoying). I guess that the beta version they also hand out to the press is not the version they will hand them out for the reviews. Gaming magazines know that those preview versions always feature a certain ammount of bugs and lack a bit of polishing but it is enough to write a good and fair article about how the game feels, how it plays, how it looks and if they think it is good.

As far as I know they still have not changed the plan for the beta phases. The last phase of the beta will eventually be semi closed. Which means it is not open for anyone but everyone who really ants to be in it can be a part of it. TW will probably hand out a lof of beta keys when they are close to the relase ( speculation only but I guess maybe 1 week before the release).

This must be some wobbly *** stone you guys have. Is it still 2+ weeks after the press like you posted in the delayed topic? or sooner than that? Having the DDE beta at the end of August when the game comes out mid September is 'plenty of time.' Just a long time from now.
