I've been experimenting with emitters, trying to get the fog I want but need some help. I really like the low hanging fog in abusement park, specifically behind the player start. Its just real light grey barely visible low hanging fog. I've scoured the map and can't figure out how they did that. Anyone know how to use this effect or create a similar effect?

Yeah, I tried to take a screen shoot, but it wouldn't have looked right. Go to abusement park, spawn, turn around 180 degrees and move around a bit. It looks like wind really, fog on the wind. I need to figure out how to do that and similar stuff. For now, I just want to use existing similar effects, don't have time to create fresh ones.

My map looks too crisp, I need some pollution or fog or haze or something like that, but I can't find tutorials on it and unreal wiki just lists properties without definitions. Any help is appreciated.

I think I see what they are doing in abusement park. Looks like they have high wind and a smoke emitter. Never used wind, any help?

But now what's up with my emitter? The palm tree has some leaves made of an opacity and diffuse map, but its just treating the whole thing as transparent:

I think I figured it out, it was that emitter in abusement park creating the effect I liked. I just copies it over and replicated it a bunch of times. Needs tweaking but I think I'll like it.

The question I have though, for future reference, is how did they make that standard smoke emitter look like fog?

It is all in the settings of the emitter. You would have to dissect it to know what they did.

I figured, thanks, I will get into it a bit more. Do you know why that one emitter is treating the opacity map as fully transparent? I mean, the palmtree looks great, but then when the palm tree is in front of the fire, you can see the entire fire through the palm tree. Very wierd.

i had the exact opposite problem with transparent texture (like water) culling parts of models that they overlayed, and i think it had something to do with smoothing groups of the models, but i'm not sure.
what are the props of the palmtree leaf texture?

i havent looked at the emitter yet on abusement parks, i'll take a quick look and then tell you what they did.

if you make any custom emitters, its a good idea to export them to scripts (.uc->.u) because lots of times they will crash server garbage purge operations. at least mine always did when i saved them into mylevel, then i started saving them as "mutators".

Haha

Haha

I found the issue. In the material, not the texture, change the setting OutputBlending to "OB_Masked".

i took a look at the emitter in abusement park, its super simple, just a translucent texture that goes in one direction, with large spawn area, and rot_camera.
