Another thing that annoys me is that the flames seems just as fast as bullets. Sometimes when I meet a flamers at close quarters, but at some distance at the same time, like in a trench and 15-20 meters or something, we shoot each other at the same time, and his flames reaches just as fast as my bullets reaches him, sometimes ending with the flames killing me first, and not my bullets killing him, even when I know we shot each other at the same time, since you cleary see when he starts to shoot. Another annoying "cant mutually kill each other"-moment. At least he would die first, then a second later I die from the flames.

I have revised the OP based upon some of the feedback thus far. Those of you that have: thanks for voicing your opinions. Hopefully more might do the same.

This is very true. However, if the tank got hit by a tracer round (inexplicably used by Jap LMG and MMGs) would an ignition of the contents occur? Would an explosion result? I really have no idea.

Tracer wouldn't do it. It would need to be incendiary, not something very available for small arms of the day.

Slower movement speed when firing would work (like the MGs). Even if the recoil isn't so bad in real life you would probably not be running forward while firing because of the heat and risk of horrible injury.

Pretty clear that the community has spoken, they should balance the flamethrower with these options or come up with some of there own.

No, not really. As long as the Japs have 11 SMGs and 5 noob tubes, nothing needs to be done to the flamer.

Every single rifleman on the American team(excluding guadalcanal) has a semi auto rifle, this more then makes up for it I think, especially considering the Americans win much more games on average then japs. Flamethrowers should at least be removed from defensive american maps.

And make it possible to cap every single objective with a half-*** banzai charge? The only reason the banzai is not OP is because of the flamer.

That's a stretch right there, I've seen plenty of well executed banzai charges taken down by concentrated mg and rifle fire. The flamethrower should be used for clearing out entrenched enemy positions PERIOD. Flamethrowers should not be used by running up and taking down an entire spawn wave, that's not what they were used for IRL. Just by implementing a small thing like slower movement speed it would greatly reduce the phenomenon I like to call "flamethrower ramboing".

That said, I never really see this behavior on american attack maps like Iwo, and the flamethrower is usually used properly here, but on defense maps a single guy spraying in a 30 degree arc can completely stop an attack.

Fixed, and

Lets see Americans have a possible

16 Semi auto M1 garands

6 BAR gunners (Or three MG's and 3 BARs depending on the map, The BAR w/grip probably being the best auto weapon in the game)

5 Thompsons

3 flamers

2 snipers

I think thats more than enough firepower to survive a nerf to the flamer and counter knee mortars/Banzai don't you think? In the defence maps with flamers removed the US get even more MG's thanks to the static browning's this amount of firepower should be more than enough to counter any banzai charge.

It's funny to see people b*tch about the # of Type 100s... I guess if you always only play American, it's something to be annoyed at, but jeez get a grip. Even the M1 Garand (the BASE WEAPON for the US) is more useful. Go and try the Type 100 sometime and get back to us.

I would like to remind you guys to keep this on-topic. We're not talking about Type 89s, Type 100s, bonzai charges, or every weapon in the US Allies arsenal that isn't the M2. This thread is intended for possible changes to the function and mechanics of the M2 and the FO role.

I use the T100 every chance I get. There are too many of them in game, simple as that. I just played Iwo as Allies and 90% of my deaths were T100s, that's about 89% too many.
