Just found out about this from a buddy @ Concord Jazz that attended.
I'd likely never have heard it otherwise, not my type of game (Civilization IV).

"Baba Yetu" was used there, from the "Calling All Dawns" song cycle composed by Christopher Tin.

You can hear it at http://www.christophertin.com/callingalldawns.html

Even over a web player, it sounds like a seriously well recorded piece with beautiful soundstaging. I ordered a copy after listening to the game song and a few others.

If you like the sound of real instruments and real voices, sadly uncommon in games, take a listen.

I play the Beyond the Sword expansion with the original Civilization IV menu (which, fortunately, is an option), mainly because of the song.

Civilization IV has given me the music of John Adams. Powerful, powerful music.

Is for me, although objectively you are right, of course. Obviously "first videogame to win a grammy" is nonsense and it's a predictable spin the videogame press put on it. I agree with that. But I don't care much about that. I now know the song was good enough to get someone a grammy and for what it's worth that's a sign of quality I like to think the song deserved.

To me it doesn't really matter where the song was used then, but since it's in Civ now when I start up Civ I know I'm listening to a grammy-awarded song. That's all that matters to me so to me (subjectively): Same difference.:)

The whole cycle got a grammy too btw. I didn't even know there was a cycle.
