Eh, I stopped playing today because I was so sick of getting bumped back down to the bottom of the score board every time i tried using the knee mortar on Iwo Jima.

Other than that I like it more than RO. Especially that maps, they're beautiful.

Played a bit on the 40-1 Classic Server and oh boy, I really love RS. I'm even sure it's not just variety with the new setting, weapons and maps but the love the RS Team was putting into the game. Huge kudos to them, they made an awesome, awesome expansion.

I just wanted to let those behind RS that they've done some impressive work. It was amazing how smooth the game was even with 64 players in the server.

As far as gameplay goes, damn is it difficult coming back to RO after so long! But after a couple rounds, I found myself immersed in the maps and enjoying the gunfights. This is some no mercy WW2 style fighting, and it's done well.

Of course there are some issues- vaulting on some objects doesn't work 100%, UI bugs, and some sound mixing needed (BAR is quiet IMO). Overall, so far it's a solid game and a good time.

Yeah for the record, TW and the RS team did a stellar job in the design and gameplay in regards to what was meant to be portrayed.

For me, it's going to take a bit of time to work myself into it.

I'm certainly all for higher penalties for TK's, but as mentioned... TL's with Arty and Troops with Satchels are suffering the most from the change.

Who cares about the scoreboard?

I kinda do. I don't care if I'm at the top of my team or in the middle or the bottom.... But if I felt I did a pretty good job for my team and did my personal best, it should be reflected in the scoreboard.... And when everybody on my team is at least above zero and I end up at a large negative score (even when I killed three times as many enemies as friendlies) that a pretty big demotivator.

The next map I just avoided the TL class. I know how to use it and I do the TL class well.... I was even getting praise from my team when the saw the long list of kills pop up on the screen..... But the scoreboard at the end was a big kick in the nuts for my efforts.

In RO2 I'd see the scoreboard and where I am with points and can always say it was fair and made sense.... It reflected things quite well... But not this new system.

I think what would be better would be to keep the score board as it always was, but for team wounds and TK's, have those -5 and -10 values reflect in the honour system leveling up instead.... I think everybody would be fine with that.

It might take longer to level up your honour and it would certainly help drop down griefers below 10 quickly, but individual matches wouldn't look so imbalanced.

+1 on the satchel & arty TKs. RO2 had issues with these as well. I always announce either to my team over VOIP but some people just don't listen. The nice thing about the American satchel is that it has that handy little flame flickering away on it -- makes it a little more visible.

They also added a new satchel icon that you can see on your tactical display.

Been looking forward to RS like a spoiled kid the day before Christmas.

First of all, I'm happy for Tripwire that RS has been so well received.
But personally I wish I was back playing Darkest Hour, the RO1 mod.
Because it had the best sound, game play, maps and features.
I would go back to it if only the community was bigger.

There's one thing in particular that I miss.
In RO1 and its mods, I had the feeling I was shooting, a good or bad shot was often instantly recognizable, even with high ping.
Its not like that anymore with RO2 and now RS, now its more like guessing, literately, witch frame the target will be in.
Low or high ping, its all the same.

Its far to early for me to cast a verdict on RS as its still beta but for now I'd say RO2 is better in game play.

You might try some servers with more players, Iwo Jima definitely wouldn't be fun for me with ~20 players, but probably you knew what you were doing.
Now after ~10 hours (2/3 of that is actually playing) and some more watching my brother playing this game seems to be epic :)
My only problem was bad FPS on my old rig but i think it slowly started to get better with these updates

New Guy's Impression

New Guy's Impression

Hi all.

I really like the game.
That said, and with the caviat that I am not a heavy hitter in fps games, I have some issues. (Please don't be too hard on me at this point. I'm trying to understand and learn. Not undercut the game)

First, (and I have played just tonight) I am a bit frustrated with what seems to be an almost unending suppression. At least where I was playing. It seemed that if I was wounded, I stayed that way because anything hitting around me knocked any healing out. I was grayed out about 75% of the time or more. I understand having some suppression effect, but for a new, casual player, it makes it extremely hard to learn the game.

Second, while I understand the Banzai attacks are supposed to make it harder to hit them... well it seems to be an almost complete suppression as well. More than once I shot someone from point blank with a BAR and an M1 and they killed me and ran away. I was never able to kill someone using said attack, even if they were attacking someone else and I had clear shots at their back. they killed my teammate and then me. I was moving like I was underwater with chains on me, and I wasn't always that close.
It just seems overpowered to me. Being hampered is one thing. Being completely unable to defend is another.

Next...to me one of the most important...(If this part is server based, let me know). Every match I played was a twofer...It replayed a second time before completing the match. This is a pain if you just want to play one match. It advised me when I left on the second round that I would get no credit/xp for playing in either round...very frustrating. I hope that this was just a server setting and not the standard. for those with limited playtime, it can make it extremely hard to level.

And last was the autobalance. I hope that I simply missed a server message. I hope so. When I logged into a server, I saw nothing that let me know whether it was a server using autobalance. This is a major thing for me, at least. IT becomes increasingly important if all RS rounds are mutliround battles. I don't play axis. Usually, in previous games, if i got autoswitched, I would try a couple of times to get back on the Allied side, an if I could not, I just quit. For personal reasons I want less than nothing to do with the Axis side. Usually, it's no harm, no foul. However in RS there are unlocks and achievements now. If I finish round one as Allied, but halfway through round 2, I get switched, then if i quit, I lose ALL the experience that I just earned. Losing it for the round I quit in is one thing... a normal match is less than 30 minutes. but multirounds take that to an hour a pop. This could be avoided IF I could tell that a server uses autobalance before I join a game and spend the time. I know that I can't be the only person concerned about this issue. I'm just saying it would be nice to see the server info showing autobalance and multiround settings. That way I could find servers that I could play on without this frustration.

I'm not saying that it's a total gamebreaker, but it really, really hurts my ability to enjoy the game and earn unlocks.

On the other hand, IF the game is standard set to always use autobalance and multirounds, that would be nice to know. I would not be looking and hoping for single round match servers without autobalance. (Not that I refuse to play on ab servers, I would just quit when I get switched to Axis.

Thanks for listening and constructive advice is very welcome. Thanks.

That two-round thing is indeed a server setting, and as far I know (in RO2 atleast) your XP and stats save at the end of each ROUND so you do not infact need to play both rounds to have your XP fron the first round accounted for (Hopefully this feature carried over to RS). Im not 100% sure about autobalance but i have a feeling its a built in feature and not server-side (please correct me if I am wrong someone since I've never taken a look at what is actually server-side).

In terms of your gameplay experience and the Banzai thing, were you playing Action mode or Realism? Because in Action mode, health is boosted way up... But in Realism, i often die in a shot or two even if im in a 5+ banzai, as long as u place shots well, u can often stop us Japs :p

RO2 and RS are both pretty tough games to get used to if your not much of an FPS player (due to the speed at which you generally die from a shot or two), and I understand how it can seem like you just get into a routine of run-die-run-die, but if you spend a bit more time in the game and take it a bit slower, the game will grow on you :p

installed RS last night, so far I love it!

The Garrand is fantastic, best rifle by far and as for the maps, I havent played through them all yet but so far they have been the best ive seen for a very long time, iwo is in fact the best of any WW2 game i've ever played CoD, UO, RO, BF etc.

Well done and great job

I'll be honest. I like the subject matter in RO2 a lot more than in RS. I've always found the Eastern Front interesting, more so than the Pacific theater at least.

Despite that though, RS is a better game. I enjoy the asymmetrical combat. I love the fact that there is a sense of fear in the game. I've grown love/hate the flamethrower for the damage it can do. I actually get a little scared when 6 or 7 guys banzai charge my position. I can say the same thing of the knee mortar, when you hear it whistling above you.

RO2 doesn't really do that for me. I love the game but there is something missing from it that RS has.

I do believe it said Action gameplay. I wasn't sure what that meant. (It sort of explained it, but it was my first logon and everything was kind of a whilrl. If that's the reason a full bar clip didn't stop one guy from behind, then all I can say is "whoah".

I have played a lot of FPS shooters. I, however am a casual player, due to very limited play time. I.e. "I suck", so I while I tend to be hardcore in dedication to a game I like, I'm not an elite or hardcore player. I am very used to run die run. What Im NOT used to is being suppressed almost all the time. Yes, if an explosion goes off ten feet away, I understand that it could ring my bell for a moment. However, I was near a doorway under cover. i wasn't being hit. Someone was shooting the doorway and as long as they shot the doorway, my health meter stayed down, and i stayed in the gray. If I get wounded...OK... If I am near a close blast...OK... heck if there is a suppression effect from a MG emplacement, I can see that if my position is under fire, but it seems that the radius of suppression effects could be smaller.

Its good to know the double rounds are server based.

All I know about not getting credit for one round of a two round match is that I played round 1, there were no stats noted, and it immediately started round 2. When I got autobalanced and went to log out, I received a message that all advancement during this match would be lost. That bothered me. i have no issue with never getting Axis stats, but I hate losing progress for a round that I completed and helped win. That's a frustrating thing.

Like the game. Really like the ambiance , and the way it "feels" . Really hate that there's no built in safeguards from rampant spawn camping. Its early though , I'm sure that will change. Looks good though. Good job.
