Yeah, this Steampunk thing got me thinking of some new weapon ideas for the Firebug, on top of my old Sterling Incendiary and the commonly suggested Husk Cannon. Let's look at them

1) The Flare Blaster
The Flare Blaster was, on top of the Steampunkiness, also inspired by the Flare Gun, in particular a triple barreled one. Here is a pic of both the original inspiration:

And here is a pic of my version (i know, horrible job in Paint, with too big a stock etc, but it's the "concept")
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/5958/blasterb.jpg

It should also have some kind of switch for the flares (which you toggle on the secondary fire) that changes the projectile you launch, so it would be kind of a hightech weapon. More to those modes further down

These are the stats:
Weight: 4 or 5 (Weight of 5 Would require the Flamethrower to go down to 9 though)
Tier: 1 (or 2?)
Magsize: 3
Total ammo: 60
Weapon cost: 500 (debattable)
Ammo cost: 10

I like the Flare Blaster suggestion, it fits the Firebug well and would likely bring it up to par with the rest of the perks. I think the damage is reasonable but that it should be considered to be a tier 2 weapon. Also, I've been waiting for something to reduce the weight of the Flamethrower, its way too heavy!

My only concern is one of the weapons firing modes, the flame wave... It just seems a little 'off' to me, like it doesn't fit the Flare Blaster. Anyway, I like the idea!

I think you're right about the Tesla Cannon being too hightech, there is no other weapon really similar to this so I doubt it would fit in very well. Still, I'm sure others would disagree. :)

Thanks man :)

About the "Flame wave", think of it as... some kind of mechanism where you explode the flare early or something (hitech, hitech ), thus producing a big burst of flame :p

The Tesla weapon is both too hightech and not. I mean, the technology sort of exist already and all, just not maybe in a portable (and self-friendly xD) version.

When the Ring Leader tried to find a way of keeping his freak show under control, he came up with a stun gun based on tesla inductors... however it did more than just stun them. A prickling experience.

with a fitting design it could really add up to the steampunk theme

The tesla gun.

I recall to Remember reading Andysowhat's suggestion on a perk based around a tesla weapon. either Agree its Hi-tech but would be super AWZM, seeing this weapon added for a short time atleast. maybe some chain damage overtime? :)

The flare gun.

Sure why not. but I think it should be like one barrel to make it more "COMMON"... on the other hand lol tesla common? haha...

EDIT:
Andysowhats version of Tesla gun. Tesla cannon...

My next suggestion for a mid game weapon (wave 3-7)

Tesla Cannon

The Tesla Cannon is a Electric spitting weapon, that electrify its enemies to slow them down. The Tesla cannon Is a great weapon to reduce speeds of an Entier mobs. because of its high rate of fire.

"Tesla Cannon."
"Flamethrower"
I would give this weapon a
damage of 3
Damage of 12
a fire rate of 0.05
Fire rate of 0.07
a locked price on 1200
Locked price on 750
Weigth: 9 blocks
Weight: 10 blocks
Ammo: 1100
Ammo: 300
Clip: 150
Clip: 100

Other.
- Weapon bullets loose 2damage for each meter the bullet travels
- Weapon Decrease the Electrify state 20% for 4sec (this will be 40% and 6sec for level 6perked players)
- While zeds are under Electrify state they will recieve N/A damage per sec.
- Zeds get 2sec of invulnerability against Electrify state, after that same effect have worn of
- Zeds get Resistant to everything (except melee damage) by 25% while under the "Electrify state"

Picture is from wolfenstein I guess. shows how the firing animation can be done

I like it, but I think the Flame blaster could use a nerf somewhere, so it's a tier 1 weapon. Firebugs don't have one, so I figure it would help.
Also, keep in mind that most of the people working on weaponry are probably working with Red Orchestra 2 at the moment, so don't expect weapons to be delivered shortly.

Don't know about Tesla (imo too Hi-Tec for KF), but Flare Blaster is a very good idea. I think Firebug lack of weaponry. There is only one perked weapon layout: Flamer+Mac10. So it would be nice to have some alternate perked side weapons to flamer, which Firebug could use instead of Mac10.
I think Molotov Cocktail would be also nice, throwing which will cause ground to burning for some time, setting zeds on fire. For example, Firebug could throw Molotov behind the door, but support close and keep it welded while zeds behind are burning.

A blunderbuss throwing a big cone-shaped blast of fire would be interesting to see, while we're at it.

I like it!

Firebug is my favorite class. I've always thought the mac-10 was a little lack luster. It really doesn't fit the bill for the firebug weapon wise. a mac-10 that shoots incendiary rounds, but only for the firebug? It just doesn't work for me.

I've thought a flaregun would be cool, or maybe a short range flamethrower.

I've always thought they needed a weapon that was more clearly a firebug weapon. I think this fits the bill.

Some where in Australia
How about a steamthrower? Deals a little less damage than FT and has no afterburn, but instantly steams everything but scrake and FP. When things get steamed their skin turns red sort of like gorefasts, slowed 20% and is now 25% more susceptible to all damage. Scrakes take about 3 seconds of sustained fire to steam and 5 seconds for FP, but it rages when it gets steamed.

I'm all for more Firebug weapons! I mean, every other class (besides the medic) gets 3+ weapons, but the Firebug only gets the flamethrower and a rather sucky, ammo-deprived MAC10. I'd totally love to see the Flare Blaster be put into the game.

I like the flare gun, sounds good, fits perfectly, though the flame wave could maybe even be added to a new weapon again, thatw ay the Firebug has 4 weapons.

The Tesla gun doesn't fit, reminded me instantly of Wolfenstein (the newest one) in design though:

My only problem is that it's not fire based at all, it's more belonging to it's own class which I suggested ages ago, but it kinda just got hidden away by other threads and didn't really get that much interest. Here is the thread, you may or may not remember it. Only 8 replys, so yeah, wasn't really a best seller ;) None of the guns were super advanced, they didn't throw out bolts of lightning or anything like that, all it was was taser based technology but utilised in different ways. A tesla gun is also far beyond realism in the sense that every bolt of electricity is gonna want to earth itself as quickly as possible, so the quickest way is going to be going straight down into the ground :p Probably not what you want in an invasion.

To get around this you could add metallic coils that swing out from the gun that are electrified and swung around by a changing magnetic field... That way the electrified wires can latch onto enemies and stun them that way I guess. :)

<a href="http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=48901&highlight=electro" target="_blank">http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=48901&highlight=electro

I stick by the idea of introducing random chance in the dealings of electricity because it would make the perk/gun unique, there is nothing else that can cause these types of effects. Anyway, back to the thread.

I actually like your picture of the Flare gun Aze, I think it would be kinda cool, but would having a long range high damage weapon be too far out of the normal Firebug profile, or would it be ok? Personally, i say it's fine, but I'm thinking this will be the main arguement against it.

Although the Flare Blaster is basically a 3-barreled version of the TF2 Flaregun...with it's alt-fire being almost identical to the Detonator Flaregun...I would love it. I like more fiery weapons.

The Tesla Gun just doesn't fit, though.

*nerd alert!!!* Electricity can cause fire as well. You can have the best of both if the cannon starts with a short range intense flame gradually getting longer. Then after 1/4 of a full tank has been used the flame starts crackling with electric energy. At 1/2 used it becomes a full fledged electric cannon. In order to achieve the electric effect the attack button must be held.

M79 acts differently in FB hands with Incendiary nades like the Mac10 setting things on fire? Not very steampunk though.

All the poor firebug needs in terms of weaponry is for the flamer to weigh 8 blocks.

You could also steal the mechanic from TF2 where you can detonate the flares mid-flight and set nearby stuff on fire.
