Won't the players be struggling with the recoil of the MAC-10? Even with burst rounds firing rate, it's still pretty high.

Its pretty tough yeah, and single shot will work on lower difficulties, but on HoE the MAC-10 doesn't have enough of a punch to decap most foes in 1. The main specimen you need it for is the Gorefast and that can take 2 or 3 headshots to decap due to his annoying head hitbox weaving.

Doing this on single shot is next to impossible. Its better to get used to burst fire headshots now than try and do it from scratch in HoE :)

Well I don't know about that, but I just tap-spamming instead of auto. The recoil just irks me too much to use the full auto firing rate, so I strictly stick to the semi-automatic instead.

Awesome, keep doing it if you can do it mate.

I myself struggle to reliably catch the Gorefasts with MAC-10 headshots, its only like 70% of the time where I catch enough headshots to decap before I take damage.

To compensate I use a short burst on full auto to ensure I get the job done 95% of the time, but by all means, if you can manage it on single shot, I'm envious, you'll be much more ammo conservative than me :p

Despite my knowledge about Firebugs, I really need to level it up. It's sitting at level 0 LOLOL.

I don't know how to use it efficiently in a team. Everyone's killing everything they can see and I'm like, "Who am I supposed to kill / nerf again?".

Well, you always have to option of joining a doom server and just going crazy with the flamethrower. ^____^ Then when someone f*cks up or gets overrun, they'll be grateful (hopefully) when you burn down the hallway and save their ***.

Or you know, you could join a regular server and actually learn to play the class (j/k Spicy) :p

Long story short, your main targets are groups of clots and crawlers. You also want to ignite and soften up Stalkers, Gorefasts and Sirens for the rest of your team to kill with ease, or have enough damage that you yourself can cut them down if your team is distracted.

Your job in primarily is to ensure that your teammates don't get caught on the break while reloading, which given the volumes of specimens that can attack is a very useful role. The burn out will kill off large mobs of weak specimens, and slow down and soften up larger specimens, buying your team more time to reload their guns and expend less time and ammo taking a foe out.

Ah, my bad. I thought he meant leveling it when playing with an effective (bordering on overzealous perhaps) team. I saw the mention of having knowledge about the class. Oops! XD

Level 4 Firebug here. Currently my favourite class in the game, but not the one I use the most (many unbalanced teams in pubs, I pick the class that we need the most and nobody is playing as, most of the time Sharpshooter in more CQC oriented maps like biolabs).

What is generally the most effective way to play as FB? Long corridors are fun, but sometimes the team sharpie or the team's support specialist army takes it as their mission to protect every single long corridor and leave the team Firebug to fight in wide open areas. In these cases, I use the MAC-10 set everything ablaze except zeds that charge and anything the sharpie/commandos may want to take careful aim at.

Other times I just go on welding/healing duty, and if a teammate gets overrun and surrounded I go insane with the flamethrower and fire grenades.

I should add that the Firebug (at least in my experience) seems to be one of the most effective classes against Sirens, if not the most. You have more range than them and they move slowly so it's quite easy to puff them with the flamethrower and let them burn, with virtually no effect on your ammo. Of course, if they're getting too close to someone, or if there're bigger fish to fry, you can hose them down just as well. :D

I find that the FB really shines when a FP and Scrake rage through your team's camping spot. This is when everyone should be shooting the FP or scrake except the bug, who should be able to hold off the horde for 10+ seconds, enough time to get everyone back in place.

Arkham.
I really like to play as a Firebug, the only problem is the ammo but you can buy aditional flamethrowers so its not the big deal.

Really nice guide dude, cheers.

It's funny because Nutter has said he's against stockpiling weapons..

Anyway. Personal feelings are that firebug can be the best crowd control in hard and below at a reasonable level, suicidal and HoE are likely best left to any other perk. That said I haven't been able to play HoE in a fairly long time considering my highest perk has been at 4 for the past couple months. Maybe I'll give it a shot with a perk replacement mut.

The problem I have with firebug is you really can't use him as a "damage multiplier" because in pretty much every stock map (with a couple exception, such as icebreaker) you are better off quickly killing the zeds with other perks than being the assist-type player. Most of firebug's kills are crawlers/stalkers and decapitated close and gorefasts. You can't be much of a damage multiplier with zeds that spawn relatively close to you and other perks with weapons that can take them out so easily.

So basically in most circumstances the firebug becomes another trash killer, and I personally think the commando is almost always better at this role. Commando can take zeds out quicker assuming the player can aim moderately well and does so without blinding the entire team (the fire effects still block sharpshooters, even if you just tap mouse1). Of course you can stockpile flamers but the traders aren't always in convenient locations.

The first post's analysis is right on in theory, but unfortunately that's not how it usually winds up in reality. :(

Same reason I dislike Firebug. The perk feels so weak compared to Support, Commando, and Demolition at killing Trash.

I have no issue on 6man Suicidal as a lvl6 firebug. I could still unload on hallways and such when a big wave comes through, use the mac10 on small waves and either have a little ammo left over on my flamethrower or mac10 by the remaining few zeds. If not, the pistol could handle the last few. I also had over 200 more kills than the second highest player. We had a well rounded squad too, all lvl6, 2 supports, 2 sharpies, demo. Had no complaints from anyone about being blinded. They were just pleased that the hallway was empty when they fire let up.

Just made it to firebug lvl 6 some minutes ago. I have to say for me personaly it satisfys my pyromanic deeds and its the most fun class for me to play. Yeah everyone can whield a shotgun or automatic rifle but at the same time they should be happy the !FIREBUG! is there to clean the hallway and save their asses time and time again...:p

I dident play any other class really....i allways come back to the pyro-maniac...:p I really only come back to KF to set stuff on fire and see it BURN BABY !!! YEAH !!! ( plus i allways kinda forget how ****ing twisted the game is...)

*edith*

FFS..why am i spawning with that little gun now and ( hell ya ) armor and not with flamer anymore :/ feels a bit like punishment ( wich kinda pulls the masochistic string in me...)
