A lot of players and posters on this forum have been complaining for some time that the MGs are severely underpowered in the accuracy and effectiveness departments. I'm more of a rifleman and haven't been that good with them myself but last night I gave them a whirl on Pavlov's house, a notoriously hard map to use an mg on without getting picked off.

Now most of you might already know this, but when you press the shift key without moving, you zoom in. I suppose this feature is useful for spotting targets at a distance. You can also use this ability temporarily with iron sights as a supposed "holding your breath" shot.

What I don't think a lot of people realize is when you have the MG deployed, you get unlimited zoom which allows you to directly compete with riflemen.

I would setup in different locations around the map and simply hold down the shift key and completely suppress the entire area. Enemies would hear the machine gun fire and pop up to take a shot at me and I would just fire a couple single shots and drop them.

Now keep in mind, im not that good with the MG34. I'm an average shot at best. The advantage I had came from the ability to completely stabilize the gun and the zoom to identify targets.

I tried this same feature on commissar's and it works just as effectively with the DP.

I was still killed plenty if I deployed in stupid positions where my firing lane was too wide. My position still mattered, but whatever I decided to cover, was covered.

Just that the good player wont miss, so instead of turning to them and "couple of single shots and drop them", you are already dead.

But yes, the zoom is very powerful on the MGs. And Pavlovs' is so far the worst map to be MGer in for me, no matter which team.

The zoom helps considerably for ranged conditions, but I still find the MG to be terribly lacking in effectiveness. Just doesn't feel right, but it could be a host of things I guess.

I am loving the MG and it is my most played weapon at the moment. I try to stay outside of the battle with a very narrow view, if possible, and sometimes take down a lot of troops. But sometimes the guns deploy bugs out and it will also not deploy in some strange areas where it shoots but I imagine these will be tuned up in later patches. I have also found the middle mouse button single shot to be quite useful.

I love MGing on Pavlov's House. Picking off people running from building to building, I have to stray from my squad a bit which sucks though. Suppressing a street is awesome, pinning someone down behind something and not letting up, you see them try to pop their head out for a look a couple times, then when they make a run for it you blast them. I had 2 Russians pinned down in a trench with nowhere to go for a minute or 2, one lept out and was shot, the other one saw what happened and tried to snipe me but I got him when he slso tried to relocate. The buzz-saw is my fav weapon so far. Love this game more than the first! I love the suppression this game emulates (and the bipod system!)

I only play as MG 34, in all maps. I must to say thats im in love with the MG role and MG itself. Usually ending each game in top 5 of german side.

In fact, when i enter in a server and find the MG role free, i get shocked. The MG is THE people killing machine, and i cant understand why the people let the MG role free. The scoped rifle is allways full, but i can say u that i can killl more people than sniper in more than 4 maps.

The use is simple. find a empty server and start ur search. U must have 2-3 spots in each map phase. The spots must be: Well covered or trenched, concealed (i play german, so i look for shadows) flank controled and u must have a not too big, nice and clear area visiono of ur killzone. U must see enemy flank or at least enemy trafic areas. So u can fire to the toons in ur frontal area and forget about ur flanks.

i found a lot of those spots in almost all maps, so im happy. I only must set my ironsight in enemy toons, anf fire in short controled burts, or use single fire if i want a style kill, have a nice and clear target, or the target is more than 200 m away. When in reload i rest, relax and change position if needed. MG use is mechanical "rinse and repeat" of death.

Sometimes i have serious problems with ammo, depleting all my drums and returning to rearguard looking for more ammo. its annoing when im asking for ammo and the rifleman near me dont give me love

Ur role is cover the enemy routes from spawn to conquest areas. set a small kill zone, u must zoom in this zone and kill all. U need a concealed, covered nice spot, so u only task is concentrate in ur kill zone and ur trigger discipline.

plsz, xcuse me for my awful english
