I think I have decided to buy the game. I liked Far Cry II despite its flaws.

But one of my major worries is: How ''much'' does it feel like a PC game? Since its not PC exclusive its obvious not going to be a true PC game in that sense. But Is there any modding for it? Can I really max out the settings and are there many options?

You don't have to worry about that. It's a great port. Lots of graphics options, FoV slider that goes up to 110, etc.

As for modding, a map editor comes with the game and you can create and share maps.

I bought FC3 the other day and I have to say that I'm really enjoying it. I agree that the game feels too easy, even on the hardest setting, though you can still die pretty easily. On max difficulty it really only takes 3-4 hits max to kill you (without body armor). The game has nice variety and it actually feels like there's a war going on, unlike in FC2 where it was you vs the world all the time. The AI is still rather dumb, though, and I wish they would shoot straighter. It seems the PC community is on top of it, though, so hopefully we'll see some hacked mods soon.

One major niggle though: the cumbersome HuD and CONSTANT ****ING CRAFTING/QUESTING/MISC REMINDERS are super annoying.
Luckily the developers have said that they're working on a total UI overhaul which will allow people to toggle most HuD elements. So thank god for that. Actually it looks like Ubisoft is supporting FC3 really well compared to FC2 so far -- there's news of that overhaul patch and there's already been 3 patches since release.

I have played the game now.

I enjoy it. WAY much better than FC2 but it is indeed to easy even if it is fun to feel like a terminator.

What I really don't like is:

- The game does not play in real-time like FC2

- There is no watch to change time of day (perfect to do certain hits in the dark)

- The saving system is more or less pointless. The game use automatic checkpoints anyway. So you cannot save at one location and expect the game to start there. And you cannot save the game while doing a mission like in FC2.

- ''Return to combat area'' message.

- Story is interesting and innovative, but at times also very, very childish.

- To much annoying notifications: ''You achieved blabla'', ''Press ESC blabla''.. I really dont have any interest in this sort of rubbish and it seems like it cannot be deactivated in Uplay

- There is no dedicated servers????????????????????????

- I get stuck quite often when walking over small clutter, and even when walking/running up for radio towers. SO I have to jump over the object. Even if it is just as high as a step on the stairs.

I just noticed this game's cover system is almost exactly like RO2's except it's automatic. The only difference is you can't peek around things. When you aim it automatically brings you over or slightly around obstacles, and you can blind fire off them without pressing anything but the fire button.

Pretty neat.

You CAN peak around things. you just have to move to the side of cover/walls and the gun's position will shift, and then when you ironsight you will peak around. It it's an elegant system that NEEDS to be copied by other games... and it works much more fluidly than RO2's system. The only main different is it only works in SP, but I imagine if FC3 wanted to make its MP component a major part then it wouldn't take that much work to get it working in MP.

I play FC3 on almost highest settings. If I active smooth edges (or whatever it was called, anyway you can choose from 2,4,8) the game runs horribly. Even arma 2 runs better.

AA usually takes a lot out of your system. You can try lowering the video quality options a bit (textures, lighting, vegetation, etc), then put a bit of AA on and see if the game looks better.

Other than that, the only option is to upgrade your hardware.

Also, this goes without saying, but make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Nah the game's just poorly optimized and/or has bad AA implementation. Even my new PC chugs on FC3 with AA and vsync. The only thing I could upgrade to is a 670 or 80 and beyond that, add a second one.

Runs better with ATI cards, at least it use to when it came out.

But yeah, that's not an excuse, nor am I saying that the game is well optimized. I was just giving tips that might help the game look better without as big of a hit on his hardware.

Then I am not alone.

Because I thought it was weird. FC3 is a console game. ARMA II is not only poorly optimized, it is way more complex than FC3 is almost every way, and I run ARMA II at Very High settings, 2500 drawdistance, and 150% 3D resolution and I can play it smootly on Chernarus map....

Anyway, have anyone tried MP?

I just played for about 40 minutes and it was really fun.

To bad the maps are smaller than in FC2 and there is no vehicles at all. So it is 100% Ru'N gun all the time. No dedicated servers either. There is a lot of great unlocks and stuff in the game. Progression system is superior compared to FC2 system. I am currently at level 9. Will I keep on progressing this fast or does it slow down?

I think I am going to play with more personal preference, though. Xrayvision, killcam, and visible enemies on the map feels like too much.

Does anyone else play MP?
