Fallout 3....

You can have an isometric perspective AND cutting edge graphics. Just have a look at that Alien Swarm mod for UT2004 (I think it was called Alien Swarm. Isometric co-op shooter).
Isometric doesn't equal tilebased evironments with blurry characters, just so you know.
Staying true to values of the original game doesn't mean to abandon everything modern and go back in time to create an add-on-like sequel.

Besides, Baldur's Gate 2 (apart from the setting it isn't too different from Fallout) is still one of my favorite games and its a screaming shame that no more of this kind of games pops up.
Too much to read, too much left to the imagination (remember that instead of flashy cutscenes you got a textmessage above the object you just activated telling you what happened), too complex to play for the action oriented kiddie crowd. I would prefer an add-on-like sequel as you call it over any of those new hack'n'slash console games they release as "Baldur's Gate" nowadays. They might look nice and some people might even like the hack'n'slash approach (my brother loves my xbox version of BG), but please don't call the game Baldur's Gate then ffs!

I don't see why you would want to use the name of the original if the sequel is nothing like it?
Why not think of a new name and if the game is good on its own create a loyal fanbase for that game? I tell you why: Because they want the money of fans from the original and of people who heard that the original was great but never even played it.

If you defend this lame method of cashing in, you are either affiliated with the devs (;) ), or you don't care for the original and its a name like any other for you. That's cool with me, but as someone who knows Fallout and likes it as it is I have to disagree.

I don't care if Fallout 3 is viewed from 3rd person. Hell, I would love to see the sky in it.
As long as the content and gameplay is the same (doesn't have to be exactly the same).
Yeah same here, whether its first person, third person, all 3D or isometric I don't care as long as the Fallout world and motiff remains intact and isn't ran through a PG13 filter.

I could even live with the combat system being drastically different as long as they kept the the essence of the series going.

Im afraid that wont come to pass, seems thease Dev's never even liked Fallout to begin with.. with an attitude like that, it seems neigh impossible that they will keep true to the series, and downright hopeless considdering the statements the Head-Honcho has made, he seems to love the exact things that would kill a Fallout game for its fanbase.

My expectations are less than nill, infact i'll probably have a heart attack from the shock if it turns out to be good!

HAHA, after a good 2 hours of browsing through multiple threads and the official forums, and digging up past comments and quotes from the devs, I'm afraid I have to agree with you...
I just hope people aren't dumb enough just to buy it for the name, that will just reward the dev's midirection.

The only positive thing you can gleam from the forum is that there is a 0.000003% possiblity that EVERYTHING that the devs are saying is infact the exact opposite of what their doing, in order to play the BEST practical joke in gaming history.

Ahem.

If you don't believe how **** the developers are of this, just go read the interviews, it'll make you sick.

Well said mate.

Meh, I dont know why people are getting so worked up about it. Even if it is **** it won't be the first (Brotherhood of Steel for PS2 anyone?).

People who ***** about games before any details are out are like atheists, if you're right great, but if you're wrong you look a tool ;) Let's all just relax and see what happens before we light the torches and gather pitch forks.

Atheists! The magic word!

In before the lock. :D

Also, we don't know if the game turns out to be good or not and we don't care much either. If its good, great, if its not don't buy it. The problem is that they want to call it Fallout although it might not have too much to do with the original and that's rude in my book.

That's like giving your porn the name of a famous movie, although its not too bad with porn because you usually see right from the cover that its crap and sometimes it is done with cool puns.:p

So if Bethesda would name their new game "Balls out 3" everything would be fine.

Ever hear of a little game called "DoD: Source"? ;)

I'd say it was actually the other way round, but that's not what we're here to discuss. :)

I never played Fallout so I have no expectations whatsoever. Turn-based anything has always bored me to tears though, so if that's what it was then I have no regrets about not trying it and will have no qualms at trying a potentially real-time one. If I'm wrong and thinking of another game though, just ignore me. Everyone else does. :p

As you've not played the previous parts it would dearly interest me if the name "Fallout" gives an added incentive to you to buy it.

Honestly? Not if I hadn't had the Fallout talked up by Reddog. I knew nothing about it before he mentioned it and the name alone meant nothing to me. I would have had to see some hype somewhere to get me to look deeper and would then have decided based on what I saw/read. The name on its own means nothing to those of us who never played the first two though.

The name retention in this case is to appeal to all you old-school players. Regardless of what they do with the game, if they slap a venerable old name on it, *poof* instant fanbase. It doesn't matter if those people hate the final product and rubbish them for it. You've already paid the money and therefore the game is a "success". Hence why I mentioned DoD: S, which was a commercial success, but the reality is that as a game, it was a dismal failure.

To be honest I was the same mate Pre Fallout. But really, it's not the combat that made Fallout great, more the storyline, the characters, the setting and just the fact you could really see the amount of work the devs had put into it. You can pick Fallout 1/2 and Tactics up for about
