Why would you say this would make the game more COD/arcade? If anything it would make the game more realistic. 
I learned to live with this "bug", but sometimes it still annoys me when I can't jump down and have to run 100m around to get to that same spot. No one would do that in real life (unless you already got shot in the foot before).
