I started playing during the twisted christmas event, and now that it has ended, I can't join any servers.

Killing Floor updated when I started it, the normal picturse of the specimens flashes in the background instead of the christmas version of them...

When I try to join a server, I get the message "Failed launching URL Package 'Engine' mismatch" and the "OK" button brings me back to the serverlists.

When I play in solo mode, I still have the christmas event thingie...

Please help :)

I actually get this error *because* i updated my linux server. I saw the update to my game client, then instinctively brought my server down to update it. Its now reporting the game at

Checking/Installing 'KillingFloorCommon' version 43

Checking/Installing 'KillingFloorDedicatedServerLinux' version 62

HLDS installation up to date

And I can no longer connect to it. Neither can a friend of mine.

If you still see the Christmas zeds when you play solo, it's a problem with the game rather than the server. Delete its system folder and verify the game files, which should cause Steam to re-download the deleted files.

Tried Benjamin's fix, pretty standard stuff but to no avail. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the latest patch being pushed out. I received it about 10 mins ago while I was playing with a friend. The game crashed instantly (no freezing, straight to my desktop) and then I saw that there was a new update being downloaded as soon as I clicked on steam again.

The thing is, my friend didn't receive an update(we live in the same region) and when I started up the game again i couldn't join any servers, including the one i crashed in. So my theory is that I might have gotten the patch a bit early for my region(Sweden btw) and that that's conflicting with the servers (mostly European servers)

Any help is as always appreciated

So, I know the default attempt of deleting the System directory and then verifying game integrity normally does the trick through steam.

If you're unable to join a server due to a mismatch, then it's the server that hasn't been updated (after you've already verified yourself to know that it's definitely not you).

As noted from a google search about this, I've learned that on the Valve site it says this:
The Steam Console Client or SteamCMD is a new tool to install and update dedicated servers using a command line interface. It only works with games that have switched over to the SteamPipe content system. Eventually all Steam games will switch from HLDSUpdateTool to this.

So what does this mean?

For a game that requires logins, like Killing Floor
steamcmd +login <username> <password> +force_install_dir c:\KFServer\ +app_update 215350 validate +quit

Logging in anonymously tells the user that the game is in fact up to date, but if you were to login to SteamCMD through your steam account, then try the update again, it'll update the game as it should.
