I think that RO is not MMORPG like Age of Connan, World of Warcraft and etc.

Customization should be allowed only for heroes, not for newcomers.

Well, we're all for variety and customization to some degree. It should be limited somehow in order to avaoid that everyone looks completely different (- which would be quite fitting in the last months of the Battle of Stalingrad, as Red Guardist already pointed out).

Option 1: Only heroes are allowed to custimize. There could be a system where you can unlock certain uniform pieces and camouflage items - something like achievements, next to the stuff they want to implement anyway like improving abilities and medals.

Option 2: Map specific variety. F.e. on winter maps different winter camouflage items would be accessible for all, for the Germans f.e. the reversible hooded parka, over painted helmets in white, white helmet camouflage covers, winter camouflage trousers, field-made winter camouflage, next to the usual field grey uniforms.

Option 3: Classes specific variety, limited different skins for the different classes.

Faces, including, hair colours, hair cuts, eyes and beards (I don't mean Rasputin like beards, though) should be open to customization for all. It doesn't have to be Fallout 3 like, just some different options to choose from would be very nice.

On the mud, dirt, dust and "used look" in general, I think Frankenstein had a quite good idea, like when you join a multiplayer game you would look quite fresh, but the longer you play, f.e. after several hours your looks would change. Don't know if it is realistic to implement it, though.

i think mud and general wear and tear would be cool in the campaign/co-op... but in MP i don't think ppl would live long enough for it to be notice (unless its clan play) maybe if you start out as a dirty muddy soldier to simulate previous fights for the MP

I think all the ideas a very cool and i would love to see them in-game

I agree... it would be cool and it sounds like you guys got it figure out how to do it right!
(ok... that was sorta just so i am on topic.... NOW! i couldn't find the thread about sound FX (i searched) so i to add to the atmosphere of the game... in RO as it is... the sound of a soldier diving to the ground sucks... it needs much more clanging and crunching and bashing sounds of all your gear hitting the ground and other gear.. sorry to be off topic... was just playing and it popped into my head)

If it were up to me, and I was trying to push and market this game. I have no doubt that if Tripwire simpley asked for volunteers, they'd have a bunch of authentically clad German and Russian ww2 re-enactors queing up to run around for them in their full kit with mess tins clanking, gasmasks bouncing on entrenching tools, hobnailed and studded boots crunching on various surfaces, open countryside, built up areas, indoors and outdoors, the works. I know many people who'd gladly do it, all tripwire would need to do would be to provide the sound and video recordist.

In addition, they could be provided with all the authentic vehicle/engine/firing and weapon firing sounds, plus all the correct verbal commands, ect, they could possibly want, and have the whole thing posted on youtube as part of their marketing strategy, to build up the hype and excitement. But, I don't work for Tripwire and besides I'm sure they already have that aspect fully tied up well under control.

the screenshots are from a very early alpha version

Hi all... This is my first post in this forum, i'm a RO fan since i've bought RO and RODH some years ago and they immediatly became my favourite ww2 multyplayer games, now i'm glad to hear that RO2 is going to be released soon :).

Anyway, in this alpha version models, I've already found a little bug: the ammo pouches error common to most fps... For exemple we can see germans with MP40 carring the K98 pouches... And i'm quite sure that russians models have this kind of bug too. In RO1 the ammo pouches always matched with the weapon that the soldier was carring and i just hope that RO2 will be developed with the same attention for details as RO1...

For some more authentic variation in the uniforms and catching the atmosphere I recommend to watch the for this time excellent movie about Stalingrad "Hunde, wollt ihr ewig leben?" (Dogs, do you want to live forever?) from 1958.

All parts are available at youtube, including English subtitles.

So you quote me on saying that this is an verry early alpha version and then point out there are errors wich most likely are a direct consequence of the above said sentence.

Am I the only one to not see the sense of that?

just for an explanation an alpha version is the first "playable" version of the game, using a ****load of placeholders, interim textures/models and missing verry important stuff like some animations, models, textures ect.

After the alpha version comes the beta version, wich normally has all content ready but still is full of bugs that have to be eliminated in this version. It is also in the beta version where the game is being balanced.

After the beta version comes the final version wich is being shipped. :)

Thanks for the link. :)

Have fun ;)

It depends, it isn't the usual Hollywood, blockbuster movie full of pathos and bombastic action and it is quite close to the time. I mean, the movie was produced in Germany in 1958 and a lot of veterans acted in this movie. For the 50ies it is an excellent movie, which also many critics say. For accuracy invalids in this movie were acted by real war invalids and afaik in some cases they used real ammunition in that movie, too. The director also used war footage archive material for his movie. Here and there may occur some inaccuracies for sure. The tank in the posted battle scene f.e. is a fake, but in general it's a quite accurate movie. The airfield scene is also much less dramatic than it really was, the newer movie "Stalingrad", whose trailer I posted previously, displays the desperateness and disastrous situation on last airfield much better.
For the 50ies in my opinion this movie is quite remarkable, especially since the Germans of the 50ies for obvious reasons didn't want to see or hear much about the war, they prefered naive "Heimatfilme" (sentimental and funny movies in idealised regional settings) - terrifying flicks, I can tell you :D

By the way, Germans have an MG42 in that film. Which is understandable, since it

I posted a colour picture (post No. 10) on site 1 of this thread, which shows a German MG-gunner in Stalingrad. You don't see much of the gun, but it could be a MG 42, allthough one needed to see the barrel in order to come to a conclusion.

Anyway some MG-42's had been in use for sure in the Battle of Stalingrad.

That's clearly a MG34, no doubt about that. :)

Have'nt there been some MG 34/41 in Stalingrad?

Hi Lemon,

what makes you so sure about that? I'm really no expert on this, but I needed to see the barrel in order to know what type it is.

Most of the posted pics show Germans in Stalingrad equipped with the MG-34, like post No. 4 and the first pic of post No. 13, while I'm not sure about the last pic of post No. 19

Thanks Russ, this link is a real source. It shows that both were in use, but the MG-34 was much more common than the MG-42.

By the way I also made a mistake in post No. 26. The German soldier with the winter camouflage parka wears a very rare Wehrmacht winter fur cap (similiar versions existed for the Luftwaffe and tank commanders) not a Russian cap. The Reichsadler was pinned on privately.

Just like this one:
http://www.militaria-depot.de/wehrmacht-winter-fellmutze-1943-kammerstuck-1.html

Yeah, no doubt about that.

How do you guys know that, please explain, I'd like to learn...
