And: "heroes don't receive any boosts themselves, but buff players around them very slightly"
Assuming this is true and not a misinterpretation, I like this even better than any kind of personal hero boosts. Instead of saying "I'm a hero, hear me roar," this choice almost suggests that the less experienced novices are trying to impress the grizzled veteran next to them, or that he is whispering valuable, battle-tested advice to the recruits.
