No. nobodys seen the pacific  go and watch it and find out yourself.

Come on man I want a straight answer because I want to know if its WORTH watching.. Don't want to waste time and money getting it then watching it and having it suck.. I'd just like to know if anyone has seen it and liked it.. I loved band of brothers so I'm assuming it might be just as good if not better?

It pales in comparison to Band Of Brothers. I would watch it because you have to make your own assessment. I personally enjoyed it about as much as you would enjoy a movie like Atonement.

That wasn't a lot, by the way.

Has anyone seen that mini series The Pacific? Done by tom hanks and the other guys from band of brothers? I know it doesn't relate to RO but is The pacific just as good as band of brothers?

Its no where near as good, only 3 hours is worth watching, it was a let down. Loved Band of Brothers.

I thought "The Thin Red Line" was good, but some people can't stand it. Just a matter of taste I guess.

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't see either of Eastwood's two Pacific war movies. Anyone want to give their take on either of those? "Letters from Iwo Jima" and I can't remember the name of the other.

Flags Of Our Fathers and then Letters from Iwo Jima were both decent movies. I preferred the latter of the two.

Now, what about a classic like The Longest Day? I remember watching it with my father when I was very young. It is possibly the reason my interest in WWII was kindled in the first place.

I recently watched Come And See. That was brutal. If you want realism then Come And See might be a great one to watch.

After reading a bit about it, I might have to check that one out. Might have to psych myself up a bit for it, first. Sounds intense.

Enemy At The Gates has several things going for it. It has a truly awesome musical score, it has great set production and atmosphere, it has some brilliant actors but sadly as mentioned they don't even attempt to sound Russian or German which detracts hugely from the immersion.

It had potential to be a much much greater movie. The love triangle side plot is unnecessary and only serves to facilitate another rivalrous side plot. They could have thrown out that garbage and used that time to focus on character development between Vassili and Koulikov.. I think Ron Pearlman has what? about 2 minutes of overall screen time?

Anyway...

I agree it wasn't a good movie by comparison to some others, but I enjoy it as some brainless candy after a long work week.

Movie is OK but not great. Mostly due to pacing issues and poor writing for the romance sub-plot.

But most people here will say its garbage because Russians use the wrong model of Mosin Nagant or the Germans are portrayed as villains or the trench coats have too many buttons.

I'm glad "history buffs" don't review war movies professionally.

typically, this was one of the big complaints about cross of iron too - since they were filming it in tito-land, they mostly had to make do with late-war equipment (t-34/85, m44 carbine) for a war set in 1943 ukraine :p

i thought the love triangle perfectly elucidated something interesting. it was effectively showing the propensity of russian officers who would abuse their power. personal grudges happened all the time in soviet government until the dissolution of the ussr itself. if anything, it added a certain interesting dynamic/realism to the film in that way.

but yeah, the film isn't the best but it's definitely interesting/well acted. come on, ed harris and jude law?

Stalingrad is a GREAT movie. There's not a lot of action but it definatly shows you the true German soldiers.

Brest Fortress is another great movie. It may not be about Stalingrad but it does symbolize the same thing as Stalingrad. One last ditch effort at defending.

Are you calling SPR realistic or am I just stupid? (probably the latter)

Not so much "realistic" as doing a nice job of conveying what it's like to be in combat -- especially at the time it was released. The beach landing scene was a masterpiece, IMO. The shells whizzing by, ricco'ing off the beach obstacles, the wounds, the screaming, the panic, the chaos.

It kind of went downhill after that opening scene, but the remainder was still much better viewing than EATG.

I've watched it over and over and never saw any mbk 42's. What an unrealistic movie- from the historically accurate RO2 I'm certain that nearly 20% of german troops had them.

I purchased Enemy at the Gates recently, and I agree with the OP this game is all the more enjoyable after watching it!
