Steam is required for multiplayer, so yes. Even if you purchase a copy in a store.

Personally I hope that what comes next after Empire will be Shogun 2 Total War, I would love that
There's already too many WW2 RTS games, and they wouldn't fit with the TW combat engine anyway, unless they rewrite it from scratch.

I think a WW1 total war would be best tbh. because it would fit in very well combat-wise and it would be a great game to portray ww1.
Yeah, sure, using an game engine that portrays discrete armies and battles fought in a few hours to simulate a continuous front conflict, brilliant.
I want a pike&musket era total war. But I'd settle with Rome2, or even Shogun2...

total war should concentrate their efforts on maybe american civil war? or german-french war, or the colonial wars with british empire and the arabs(lawrence from arabia) ...
