I can't remember if you could drop weapons at any time in ROOST, I think you should be able to do it in ROHOS, with the benefit of being able to move faster. Run out of ammo? Dump that rifle and use the extra speed to find a new one. May not be authentic soldier behaviour but I'd say it would have its uses.

I actually really like this idea.

You were able to drop your weapon in ROOST and I believe you will be able to do the same in ROHOS. From the fact thread:

"Weight System: The player can carry multiple weapons as well as grenades, but has a maximum allowed weight and will slow down as they carry more. (Source: Ramm-Jaeger on IRC)"

Yeah, but I think the point the OP is trying to make is that running around with no weapon at all should make you faster.

I honestly don't know how I feel about that tho.

I'm pretty sure that dropping your weapon isn't going to make you run noticeably faster, except maybe AT-rifles or MGs.

If you drop your weapon, even if it's empty, you are left with nothing to defend yourself with except your fists and a knife, niether of which TWI has made any mention of including. If you hold on to your weapon, you are still able to bash people in the head with it if you can get close enough. Or even better, if you're a rifleman, you can shank some suckas with your all-mighty bayo:p

I've mentioned this earlier, but I think that weight should affect your momentum, rather than your maximum speed.

Im sure you will be able to do it, not sure if you will move faster, but it seems like a bad idea to do ingame

I think you should have the same run speed with 1 weapon (plus maybe pistol) and with no weapon. Reason being the person with no weapon shouldn't be able to run away faster than the one with the weapon chasing him. Might lead to silly stuff. People with more than 2 weapons should be slower, but persons with no equipment shouldn't be faster.

DInside@ Good point. If an MG breaks into a sprint he will have a longer stopping distance than say a submachine gunner or rifleman because the momentum will carry him much further. This is interesting in play because you can unintentionally run past cover and get shot. Diving to the ground and sliding to come to a quick stop would be neat just like in AA3.

Since there is no unarmed combat or weapon shot out of hand, I doubt you'll be able to go completely weaponless.

That said, there is a weight system, so if you only have a pistol, you would think you could run faster.

I'm a bit skeptic about the no unarmed combat/no weapon-shot-out-of-hands thing, I just hope they know what theyre doing

Speaking of being able to carry multiple weapons, this feature really makes realistic weapon switch times even more important.

I would hope so. But judging by how quick the reloading is, I would assume that RO2 will feature lightning fast CS/CoD style weapon switching.

It should take a while to switch weapons, especially to an MG and whatnot.

I'm hoping there isn't a second main weapon, otherwise it'll just be COD style sniper/smg loadouts. I haven't seen anything but single weapons at this point, have I missed something?

As for the OP, I think that since the weight of the loadout will effect movement speed, if you can drop your weapon, you should be able to move slightly faster. I doubt it'd make enough of a difference to make it an attractive choice though.

You will be able to pick up a second main weapon, from what I understand a third and fourth one too, but it will effect your movement speed.

Switch to your knife or deagle for maximum speed so you can get to the bombsite quicker

I don't think i can run any faster without a weapon than i can with one, though i guess it could affect how long i could run before i get tired.

I can however run faster with the gun in my hands, than with it slung on my back, because having a large chunk of steel and wood hitting your backside every step isen't helpful.

Yes yes, i see it, go ahead, insert your double entendre below:
