I usaully use the Bayonet all the time as it saves me when I am trying to kill someone close by shooting at them and missing. That's just me with my crap aim. Yet sometimes I won't use it if I know I won't be getting too close to the action.
Downside to attaching bayonet?

I always attach my bayonet just before nearing the enemy or charging them, it's cooler if your team sees you crouch behind some sandbags, fix the bayo then stand up and charge 
Anyway I don't notice any difference to sway or accuracy when I fix the bayo.
