Downloading Custom Maps

I recently added my custom map to my server to see if people could join, but it's giving them an error "Error opening file". Do maps not download from the server like they used to in KF1, or do I have a setting wrong?

Bonus question: Has anyone figured out how to compress maps yet?

I've had the same issue but could find no setting that could change this.

Suprisingly, packages downloaded just fine for people that were joining my server.

You can host a custom map just fine but people need to download your map separately.

If memory serves me well, you have to set up a re-direct server for maps.

Yeah, that sounds right. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to compress the maps. I've seen on the server list a few people have it figured out, but I just don't know what I'm doing.

Setting Up Redirect
To enable redirect for third party custom maps to be able to run on their server, admins needs to install the "cooked server" files in their "\KFGame\BrewedPC" directory on the dedicated server.

Now unless users already have the cooked client map files installed manually or previously downloaded in their clients cache, the server will need to be set up to redirect clients without the map to download it from a redirect server. To enable this, the admin must open the PCServer-KFEngine.ini file and add a new section near the bottom of the file. The section is called [IpDrv.HTTPDownload] and should look like this:

[IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
RedirectToURL=http://redirect.tripwireinteractive.com/kf2/
Where the RedirectToURL is a web location that is a repository of the client map files. The example above is the location of Tripwire's public redirect server which will host several near complete and complete custom maps. The client map file must be named as a .kfm file.

did you compress the map? if so how, also the web server only needs to have the map files correct?
I didn't compress the map, no. I haven't found a way to do it, and there probably won't be since the server only reads .kfm extensions. The map file only needs to be in the map folder if you aren't using a redirect.

You can set it to let people dl right from the server. I had to change some peer download option in the cfg files. But after I did people were joining my server without the map, and it dl'ed it for them. Worked fine
