What does the hardware physics option in the graphics settings do? does the single player use PhysX allowing you to turn on GPU PhysX?

I don't know if it uses PhysX in particular. But I imagine Hardware physics pushes that particular system to a GPU.

This is me completely guessing. But it would make sense considering many individuals have more than one card.

problem about this is that(if Physx is used), its only available for NVidia users(the hardwareacceleration).

ATI users like me have to :IS2: their cpu.
Well sofar my CPU is working fine, but Phsic calculation on GPU would be a nicething for me though^^(sadly NVidia only v.v).

PS: or can anyone(Dev?) tell us some words, using Physx? If no, is Hardwareacceleration available on ATI too?

It could be general hardware physics. I would imagine their is third party software. It's not like Nvidia could patent the process completely.

Hardware Physics - send it to the card?

Well the UDK uses PhysX. They could of course use something like havok or bullet physics or even their own physics engine but any of these with the UDK would be a lot of work. Also, the GPU physics for Havok and Bullet are still experimental. I don't think any games even use Havok or Bullet GPU physics yet.

I run a blog dedicated to video game physics - http://www.gamephys.com/

If one of the developers could give some input on this and help solve this mystery that would be great. I would love to do a write up about the physics being used in RO2.

What exactly does this hardware physics do? Do it make the physics more advanced or whats the visual diffrence?

We use stock UE3 Physics with only minor tweaks. Thus, we are using a combination of PhysX and Unreal Physics.

So Nvidia cards Do benefit or is it all run through the CPU?

The biggest thing PhysX is known for is cloth tearing and object fragmentation (a chair wood splintering when shot). It is nice but not a huge visual difference from not having it.

Thanks for clearing this up. Can you give us any details about the physics being used? destruction, cloth, etc?? I assume this is only for single player.

The hardware physics option enables PhysX hardware acceleration. There is no noticeable visual difference, but you may experience a performance gain.

There is a reason to buy Nvidia cards when in nearly every game the Nvidia logo pops up :)

They use an Nvidia technology so they get their label :p Those with a dedicated Physx card probably get a bonus to performance, but then they should as they have a dedicated physx card ;)

I will have to try check to see if my 470 is currently set to do the physics when I get home.
