First prototypes were completed around early 1943 (if I remember correctly) but, due to design problems, shortages in material and complex design, the large scale production only started early 1944.

But not before April 1943. ;)
Debatable, source?
As far as i know they were fielded earlier than that for tests , late 1942 that is. If they appeared in Stalingrad i do not know, finding that for facts would probably be really hard since they were in minuscule numbers. I dont see anything unrealistic about the weapon appearing in RO2 however, since the weapon did exist by the time.

Read through the countless Mkb.42 discussion threads.

Also:

The 25 guns delivered in November and 91 guns in December match with the production numbers stated by "Lexikon der Wehrmacht", which in turn also match up with the total number produced stated by nearly every book and website.

It doesn't make the numbers 100% true, but they are the most accurate I have seen until now.
