Does anyone use bolt actions any more?

I am 70% rifleman and 30% MG. Absolutely love stabbing people in the stomach one by one! I usually end up at the top 3, but that's not the point. I just wish more people would stop being point paranoid and play the game realistically. All I see is semi-auto rifles everywhere, that makes me sick.

I like to use bolts, but with bolts I often hesistate instantly in close quaters, or it fights where an enemy can see me.

Whilst in fights where the enemy can see its fire, just means I fire extremely quickly, whilst in CQC I end up shouting "OHJESUSWHATTHEHELL" and miss horribly. Which is why I use bolts, but dont do well.

If the map is short range, I go for semi-auto/full auto for the sake that I don't want to rely on bullet reg not sucking. On long range, I know the bullet reg doesn't seem to be an issue so I'll stick with a bolt action.

This, unfortunately. I think there is something incredibly satisfying about manually bolting your rifle that I simply don't get with any other weapon, but I'm already bad enough that I don't need the game's wonky hit detection at close range making sure I loose just about every single close quarter encounter, and not just most of them.

If you really want an accurate rifle, with nearly sniper abilities, 32 rounds per clip and due to the rapid fire rate a lot more chance to hit? Take an MP40.
It's like a damn laser gun :')

Lol, I got sniped the other day across Fallen Fighters by a guy using an MP40, close to 200m. He was working it too, no barrage of bullets landing nearby, just a small burst.

It might be historically accurate to be able to hit targets reliably with SMG's at the ranges we play on the exisiting maps, since they're really pretty low, but I wish we had a choice for more bigger maps that called for longer range weapons. I don't usually see many SMG's on FF for a reason.

(i didnt play ro1)
here is an opinion of an (i'd say majority ro2 player):
i was interested in playing bolt action to begin with.
i saw that you unlock the pistol at lvl2 rifleman and thought: ok got to keep it together at long range till i unlock the pistol so i can do both.
then i reached that lvl and realized on most servers riflemen can't use their pistols even if when they unlocked it.
i like playing on realism mode servers but this was definitively the turn off and now i take any other class when ever i can, because as already stated you're mostly at an disadvantage as a rifleman.
give us the unlockable pistol in all modes and i'll gladly play rifleman again.

You like realism servers, but you want pistols for all classes:confused:

It's funny how the majority of forum players answering seem to prefer bolts. Must be looking for the hardcore WWII experience.

i fail to see the logic in "more bolts= better game.".
if most of the team will play bolts, even if it's realistic, the game will just be a big lame campfest.

when alot of people are using autos and semiautos, they actually attack and aren't afraid to rush and take OBJ's, because they know they have weapons with cqc abilities. this is good for those people who play rifleman as well, because when alot of people are attacking you can snipe and kill them much more easily with rifles rather than a game when everyone just camps and hides.

With all due respect I will try to be as gentle as possible lol

Anyone using a bolt and ignoring objectives and playing sniper is a fail rifleman.Besides the fact its historically accurate it changes the gameplay actually allowing you to do something without being sprayed down by highly accurate automatic fire.I find it strange that people want to turn this game into a spray and prey type arcade game.If you like that kind of action there is 20+ games with that identical type of gameplay.

This game already has too many auto's adding more would just turn it into another spay and prey/run and gun type game.Myself I like having a choice of something different and unique.I fail to see the logic in everyone wanting all games to be a clone of each other.

Uh, yeah, like players that have other weapons are all action movie like

I can't tell you how many times I come out of the spawn with a rifle to assualt an objective only to pass someone with an smg or semi hiding somewhere trying to take pot-shots at someone. Kinda sad really

To be honest, I see the players who choose the bolt rifle play smart and know when to be safe, and know when its smart to rush in and do an assualt.

well you and the poster above you are special players.. from my experience in alot of maps, alot of people who play rifleman just hang back and camp, even if they are on the attacking side. for example: in appartments most of them will stay in the first house near the allies spawn, in barracks they almost always stay in headquarters.

and it's hard to blame them because even if youre a rifle master, using it effectively in CQC is very very hard. i really dont wanna see a game when 80% of the team just stays back when they need to attack only because they have rifles.

Agree a lot do this and it makes me mad too as a rifleman I often lead the charge into the caps even ahead of the assaults. In ro1 we had about 50/50 bolts vs automatics or more and had no problem with this. They will learn to charge or loose the match its that simple. Now many hang back simply because they feel they are stuck with the bolt and can't do nothing better....they just don't know any better and are used to run n gunning

If we had more bolts they would learn quickly that they should charge with the rest or like I said loose ....And im pretty sure no one likes to do that

The bolt has its advantages its not a weapon you get stuck with and are doomed to fail with.It just takes some patients to learn to employ properly finding spots in the zones that gives you the edge ...even on the smgs

I have no problem getting in the top 3 of the score using only the bolt even on kills and I charge as hard as any assault player. With practice some maps you can flat dominate with a bolt and even close quarters maps like Barracks can often do really well.I never feel its a disadvantage using it you just have to learn to employ it right and be aggressive for the caps.

A round with my trusty bolt
Spoiler!

Placing mines in your ammo box
I honestly can never get a better score than when I use a bolt. Rifleman are essential to every assault. Spartanovka displays this perfectly. More often than not, I see a whole bunch of rifleman running into housing block 1, killing everyone in the cap and then charging HB 2. I see more people with MKBs and Semis haning back than I do bolters. I like to think that if you're using a bolt you are doing it voluntarily and you love it.

in RO1 maps where there were a high proportion of bolt action rifles, I don't remember any problem with players hanging back - at least not after people had worked out that to win you needed to get in the cap.

I don't think having more bolt action rifles in RO2 would create the problem here either.

I use bolt a lot. I miss the old RO when there were a lot more bolt rifles in every game.

I also think the default should be manual bolting like RO1 not the auto bolting after every shot that's default now.
