Does anyone use bolt actions any more?

I don't really like playing the Rifleman class because it feels kind of like a punishment. I don't like sitting back and camping because I'm more the person that likes to rush points or flank the enemy and wreak havoc. Unfortunately the bolt action isn't for me.

My favorite weapon is the SVT-40 (got it lvl 50) because it's very accurate, has better reloading mechanics than G41, and the bayonet rapes face when anyone gets close. I would say I get more kills with my bayonet than I do bullets because most games I go for the stealthy killing spree when I flank an enemies cap point. :D

Really? I just finished playing a match of Grain Elevator, and racked up 50 some kills with my k98, and was usually the first man on point. Lost out to Dr K6 for kills, but I think he was MG and got himself positioned time after time to cut down hordes of Russians.

Rifle men are very capable of assaulting positions. I cleared out B point several times on that map by myself, simply by running like a mad man to get to the back door, and then stabbing everyone in the back. (And usually getting shot/catching a grenade from a friendly. There are good reasons I use the username Luckless.)

The only reason to camp with a rifleman class in Territory is because you Think that is what you're suppose to do. Three or four riflemen working together are more than enough to overcome a defended point. Two shoot, two move, then swap roles as the others move up more. Get in close, use grenades and charge with bayonets. If possible, pick up an SMG and now you have even more firepower in close spaces.

The rifleman is a great class, suited to all ground.

I've recently been playing the rifleman class more. I've levelled up my SVT to 30+ and PPSH to almost 25. I initially thought that rifleman meant to hang back more. In some circumstances, yes. However, its stopping power and penetrating power is pretty damn nice. Someone duck behind cover? Shoot through it.

The rifleman class rewards good aim. It's well worth switching into it once you know the maps well, as you can take better advantage of the angles. I seem to get more kills on occasion with the rifle, as it takes people down with one shot moreso than the SVT.

Another thing worth noting is how fast the rifles level up. I think I went up around 5 levels in a round on Sparta with a bunch of bots.

do u guys do manual bolting? ive been doing it for a while but actually i didnt notice much difference apart from doing an extra mouse click for bolting.
now whenever i fire i click my left mouse button twice in quick succession,as if i was on auto-bolting,so i wouldnt forget to bolt for my next shot. am i better off going back to auto-bolting

Auto bolting is slower than manual bolting, so I would stick with it if I were you

I too only used bolt and only chose German side.
But I find it difficult to even do that with good camping spot when bullet showers from PPSH and SMG distorts my aiming without fail.
PPSH performs a better weapon in med-medium long range just by the sheer amount of bullet and suppression factor.
And the way the models are designed, a quick turn and the target is easily lost while at the same time revealing my position.
If I do play RO2, I still choose bolt action, but I usually end up quitting in 5 minutes because the game play is lame.
Using semi is a joke. I would pick them up when holding close quarter places and it takes no effort to get frags.

The other thing that bothers me is that as a rifleman, the game makes it really frustrating to attack the cap zone. There are always slew of autos, semi autos, and machine guns just camped out with little to no bullet sounds so majority of the people just try to snipe far out of the capzone.
I mean why does PPSH fire like it has a silencer on?

Now I find myself playing more of RO1. I doubt RO2 will ever be 'Red Orchestra'.

Nah I never use the bolt action rifles, my computer is pretty good so I am usually one of the first five in which means I always get the PPSH or AVT-40/SVT-40. If I had to play bolt id be frustrated too much because the hit detection isn't the best, with such good quick firing weapons that doesn't really matter as I always can simply fire multiple rounds down range to insure I made the kill. I used to pick up bolts as a ppsh user but now that I learned to control the recoil well I can typically just snipe with whatever weapon is in my hands so I don't even bother with them. I can hardly remember the last time someone killed me with a bolt as well.

No, the TWI doctrine is that when a weapon was used in Stalingrad during the battle of stalingrad, then it deserves a place in the game no matter the rarity of the so called gun.
Actually the same problem propagated to armored combat - Panzer IV's with long barrels were pretty rare, the mainstray of the German forces was a mix of Panzer II's, Panzer III's and short barreled Panzer IV's.
