I don't know why everybody is so excited about those events. They are completely immersion breaking and the specimens are even more cartoonish. And on top of that the hitmarkers for some specimens are BROKEN AS HELL.

Agreed. I would prefer fixes over events. However, which nets more dosh for Tripwire?

They break the boring cycle of the same thing over and over with the boring regular Specimens, which, while scary to begin with, become very boring after 5 months. They add spice and flair to the game, as well as proving that TWI don't take themselves too seriously, adding in comedy to an already great game while still maintaining a horror movie feel. Also, bugfixes will go hand-in-hand with the update, as they have done every other update.

Of course, you're welcome to find a game that does nothing but bugfixing over and over again, never adding anything new to the mix, and see how long it lasts.

For someone who seems to have had joined the game in 2012 and has a sig that practically defends the buzzsaw bow, I feel that you have absolutely no place in saying that.

I mean ****, I remember playing Level 5 commando with nothing but a bullpup on suicidal difficulty.

Dude, you are proving Arblarg's exact point.

He actually attempted to hop right around my point. I mentioned no commando weapons in my post. The bullpup is not one of the 4 vital KF weapons. However my point still stands, that the 4 vital weapons have hardly changed at all, nor have how the specimen and their appropriate kill tactics with those weapons work.

I'm interested in it because new maps are made official, new weapons are often added, and if it's an old event, it gives me a chance to get some of those achievements which were time sensitive (if they repeat an event, which they probably won't for the summer). I realize that's not everybody's cup of tea, but it's fun to me.

Don't the achievements unlock in different events anyways, since the specimens are counted as the types needed for the original achievements (IE the Hillbilly specimens still counting as halloween specimens for the Grim Reaper achievements)?

The game is supposed to be dark and gritty. The initial idea of the mod was to be SURVIVAL HORROR. Where all this went? Down the drain I guess. In its current state KF is more like zombie apoc parody like Zombieland + shooting range simulator. I prefer the specimens in the events to be inspired by the monsters from Silent Hill or Dead Space rather than the guys from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
The only way to have some good survival horror feeling now is to play one of the Lights Out maps. TWI should make one of two of those maps a official maps.

Not to mention that Suicidal back then was actually a lot harder than it is today.

suicidal was harder? i dont think so. they didnt change anything, suicidal is always same hard, but now you can use new stuff like buzzsaw or trench gun which makes it easier

So many people saying "they are in it for the money" compared to actually seeing the reality of a game making company...Keep it up and TW may turn around and say sod it, let's be like the other companies as that is what our "fans" are asking us to do.

I hate to break it to you... But TWI did that a very long time ago...

Time for people to take the blinkers off, smell the coffee and just accept the truth no matter how hard that may be.

Don't know how many times I have to state this, but hey ho, one more wont hurt:

TWI switched from a customer focused company, to a business focused company the minute the first special event rolled around. They just got more confident about it over the years(confident/big headed/arrogant/They all fit). But the problem is, TWI ran before they got good at walking and totally burnt bridges everywhere.

It's only the loyalists and the everyday, don't give two fig rolls, public player who are still around.

In short, its over man, we lost, the money won.

If we lost, then why are you still here? Or are you just the common forum naysayer that goes around saying "THE END IS NIGH" while not actually leaving like, you know, a smart person who says that?

"hahaha, you dont know me, guy who joined the forum months ago...." aw, baby's first argument.

Yeah, it's safe to assume that you are just the common "THE END IS NIGH" guy, never presenting an actual argument, just shouting about how the game is dead.

Also, just so you know,
forum join date =/= time in the actual game
forum join date =/= forum experience
forum join date =/= anything that could possibly matter in any situation involving the forum, except maybe imaginary junk size.

All joking aside, that attitude is going to get you nowhere. I've been there mate, 670+ posts here, I estimate 600 of those was me being an extremely controversial and argumentative person.

And honestly I didn't keep away from here for almost a year to return and throw fistycuffs with everyone. Hell I'm not going to be around much longer for the chance. A few more contributions and i'm flying the nest again.

My response to you and this should have been my first, go back to page 2 of this thread, you'll see where I have picked up my contributions.

Regards

I think it'd be naive to believe that TWI aren't in it for the money, because every for-profit company is, and that's why to some extent that's why TWI must be. That's not to say they don't care about the game or the player base though, just that they have to take actions that will keep them afloat as developers.

Considering the amount of attention they've been giving the game (keeping the hardcore players happy as well as bringing in new players), I'm sure they do care about it. But pleasing the existing player base isn't enough to keep you financially afloat.

I think it's obvious to most that by this point the game is past its prime and has been watered down to appear to the lowest common denominator, but it's still pretty fun.
