KF2 now pls!

I've always thought, Killing Floor on UE3 would open up almost limitless possibilities for the game, both for modders and TWI themselves. Look at the things we do already on the old 2k4 engine. It's amazing.

Up there, in the trees...
I've said it once and I'll say it again, it's too little, too late.

I think what TWI has delivered in the past has been great in terms of diversity to the game. The more recent decisions were beautiful business decisions but incredibly poor customer relations decisions.

New weapons that no one asked for, better yet charging money for those new weapons no one asked for. Again, beautiful business decision as people will buy out of loyalty, made plenty of $'s, poor customer relations decision as people did feel betrayed in lots of ways. But business is business and I wont open that can of worms as it gets us nowhere.

To the point of waiting for this big update (clearly a story mode, if not then what an epic anticlimax unless it turns into a KF2).

Lets look at the record, It took them 3 years to add a female character into the game, by that time no one cared as they'd had enough of begging for something that clearly could have been added 3 years before. And instead of just adding the character, they charged players to get it.

Again, brilliant business decision, lots of $'s, bad customer relations decision, people feel betrayed.

They've done the exact same thing with this, they told us all a big update was coming that would revolutionize KF... that was 2 years ago. Sure we got christmas and summer updates that had a fantastic temporary charm to them, but it wasn't revolutionary, it was still the same gameplay, same enemies, same set up of weapons just in different models and sounds to be blunt.

Getting to the point, people are saying the player base is dying... its not because they're not playing because they want to play another TWI title, its because they're bored of playing the same thing over and over again.

And its actually a damn sight worse than that for KF. I am lucky enough to have played the original set up of KF, before the Husk was in game. Back then it was a real challenge and damn fun to play because of that, so people played round after round as it was ridiculously good fun and purely customer based.

Now sadly it has been turned into the thing that the TWI president blasted the gaming industry for, its another CODtastic ease fest of a game.

Its not a challenge, too many cod'like weapons that just rip everything apart, boring as you like.

Instead of delivering this big update 2 years ago when KF had a chance of survival, they botched it. KF is dead in the water now. and all the excuses can flow, its an old game, other games are out there, so on and so forth.

Truth is and I said this a very long time ago and everyone just ripped me apart as they most likely will do again here.

TWI changed from a customer focused company to a business focused company. They're now in it for a quick buck instead of wanting to keep their customer support. Not a bad thing and I don't blame them one bit.

In fact I'll take this opportunity to say that the new KF calamity project for the OUYA is brilliant. I think it was a sound business move and I take my hat off to them for it. Its interesting and new. Totally not customer based at all though, seriously business only based.

To the original KF, when they eventually get around to releasing this big update it wont matter, it might bring the numbers up for a few weeks, maybe months if they're lucky. But overall KF is dead and has been for a long time.

Its nothing more than a money bank that TWI can dip into when they need it. Nothing short of KF2 will save the KF franchise now.

And yeah, that was me making a very rare contribution.

Addition: Lets admit it, KF has nothing anymore, Its been whored out. The whitelist went, the workshop came in and the level of worthwhile things went into obscurity. Its lost its entire range of true modders, I watched WPC drop it like a dead fish into the toilet because they could see it was worthless. Marco, one of the pioneers of the mod world, he left years ago, he had the foresight to see exactly where it was heading and that was down out of sight.

Its a nothing game now and its sad to see. TWI attempted to appeal to the COD market who barely sniffed at it, in the process, totally killed the core player market. All that's left are the loyalist and even their numbers are dwindling. KF is that game that is in the bargain bucket at the local super market now.

Business ventures have quick turn overs, TWI just don't have the man power to have quick turnovers, but they're playing the business ventures game. In short, they ran before they got good at walking.

Companies like EA and Activision can play the business venture game and not give a fiddle about their customers because they can churn out megahappy game 1 and 2 in the space of 6 months. TWI can barely scrape a worthwhile update out once a year, let alone a revolutionary one. And whilst they're still playing catch up on their other projects its a losing battle. RO2 went sour, they pulled something back with it, played the hand of expansion/new game with RS and lets see how that goes. TWI played the right game with that, they needed to focus on RO2 and RS, but in doing so KF has sorely felt the pinch.

I will play the next update of KF as at heart I still love the damn thing, but in no means do I think i'll stick around for long. As soon as I OCD my achievements I'll be gone again. There's nothing interesting anymore. And another sad truth is, TWI could have made it interesting had they stayed customer focused. But they chose the business route and that's the cards on the table now. Deep down I secretly hope an epic update comes down the pipeline and makes me wet my pants and fall in love with the product again... but in reality I know its not going to happen and I've already said my goodbyes to Killing Floor.

No information on the next update doesn't tell me TWI are being mysterious, it tells me that they just don't care anymore. Its going to be another find out on the day release and its what you get so be happy with it.

I could go on and on, but its all been said all too many times before.

I talk from experience, not assumption.

Been a pleasure as always.

Marmite. Love it or hate it. People love the KF events some people hate them. The majority love it. They appreciate the work that goes into it, which by the way costs time and money. Nothing wrong with the devs trying to recoup some of the costs.

I don't always agree with certain things added to the game, of course not. But it doesn't stop me playing with my buddies and enjoying it for what it is. A nice distraction.

At the end of the day, we're all different and are entitled to our opinions. We choose to spend money on games and expansions. I pre-ordered Aliens: Colonial Marines and regretted it. Biggest pile of tripe i've had the misfortune to play.

Oh, it's you. I thought you left after that hoax weapon dlc pack thing you started on the steam forums...

I would like for there to just BE a summer event. Getting kind of worried because they haven't put anything up yet. Usually they 'advertise' the event on the site a good few weeks in advance.

I think its getting close to KF's last 'holiday' though. ): Just barely 2k (average daily) people and falling isn't going to last much longer.

Eh, people come and go. They go and play a new game for a while once they find that KF has gone a little stale for them, but a lot of them always seem to come back. Every now and then I take a break from KF and play some L4D2, RO2, or Payday instead, but I always end up coming back to play once I get bored with the other games.

Like I've said before, a new specimen would spice up the gameplay a bit, and would likely bring back some older players.

My legend proceeds me. And no, I never left, never have, never will so rejoice.

The point is like I said, I come back for about 2 days in events and leave for 6 months + until the next event. Its hardly a sustainable income of players. More and more people are dropping and more and more aren't actually returning at all. You have a slight peak during events but overall the player base is a shadow of its former self. KF is down and out and is beyond repair.

That was a special one to you, I know how much you love me.

KF's shelf life has far exceeded my expectations. 5 years (and counting) isn't at all bad for a UT2004 mod, ported to retail. Not bad at all.

Totally agree with you. It was a fantastic game and certain aspects of it still are. All I'm saying is unfortunately the big update should have come during KF's heyday when it was in full swing and not after its spark has almost died out. Just think its too little, too late.

I totally agree with you Hunter. Its very sad but thats the truth. I love KF, its my fav coop game ever made for PC. Sadly its already dead, I don't know if its because it dated badly or because of TWI's decisions. I can forget about RO2 and RS2 but KF is something special and this really pissed me off. I never wanted this game to end up like that :\

Legit, admins started the thread in the first place.
Oh, thats because i reported a whitelisted mutator that need to be removed of its whitelisting privileges due to being broken and no one saying anything about for 3 years.

Also
Ok, it doesn't look like we'll have time to get these in for the summer event, but will tackle them on the rollout.

Well no **** there will be a Summer Event present for the year, so its still not news, and its not like they give exact dates either.

Uh, how is 2,600+ players in the realm of "Dead"? You know that other game, Super Monday Night Combat? It has 600 players at most a day, maybe less. That's a dead game.
Not too long ago its maximum daily average was around 5,000. That was only a few months back. When I first started Killing Floor, its average was around 12-15K daily. That was only a little over a year ago. There is a steep falloff and the trend is only continuing.

That's because the game is what, 5 years old now? Plus, there's still at least a year in the game by the looks of it, since you only need 6 people per game, and can play on your own. Honestly, all KF needs is some publicity, and hopefully the next Summer update will help with that.

Fix has 3 letters.
It was posted on in the 5th day of the 6th month 2013.
Yoshiro joined the forums in October of 2005.

Half Life 3 confirmed : October 6th of 2013.

Some actual summer slideshow confirmation would be nice.

Run this by me again? Valve actually confirmed HL3 after a bazillion years of being in denial of the already known? AND gave a release day?
