Hey just wondering if you guys miss the slower reload times like from RO1. Like the animation from the Stripper clips were they have trouble getting the rounds in the magazine.

Miss being pinned down and reloading all slow, really added drama to the environment.

It's funny you say that, cause I've been waiting for a game to have crazy realistic reload animations. Like it looks down and pulls a magazine out of the pouch and puts it in the gun.

As awesome as it sounds, it would be a terrible game play mechanic.

Anyway, yeah most the reload times are really fast. Even the bolt action times. It almost sounds like a pump shotgun being action'd

funny.
Yesterday evening i was on the range with a person who never fired a weapon before. Her playes Ro2 as well and wants to fire some rounds with my MN91/30.

You have to see him reloading. Trying to open the bolt with 2 fingers...

After a coule of shots he changed his reloading-strategy in a more rude way ;)

Yeah you do have to "force" the rounds in there. When I first shot my k98 I thought it was broken. ( I was 16 leave me alone ) And my brother's Mosin Nagot is the same story.

Well I mean't fumbling. Humans make mistakes. We used to go to the range in iraq and load 5 rounds in each mag just to practice reloading. Fumbling happens ALOT lol, esp when your trying to get it done faster. And we had velcro mag holders, these poor guys had buttons right, or the twist wooden thing.

Didn't really want to start a 'whats realistic' topic more of a 'yeah that was awesome' or 'i hated it' kinda discussion.

I just think it made the player feel more believable. And when you know an enemy is coming around the corner, and its slowy loading your bullets my heart use to race. I mean RO2 has that "heart race" factor to, just in diff ways.

And btw there not a "myth" You can't go off youtube video's.

You have to account for opening the pouch, getting the rounds out while not dropping the other set of ammo in the pouch. closing the pouch if there's an exisiting clip in there. then you can reload at that point.

On top of all that your tired if you were running. You may be prone and your pouch is below you.

You may be dirty and hands are probably fatigued because of the weather.

My point is there are ALOT of variables to consider than just placing a magazine into the magazine well and chambering a round.

reloading in the field != reloading at the range

I think (!) a ****ed up front MN with dirt inside and not so well cleanded is not so comfortable to reload (bolting) than a well cleanes MN like it is in oure houses, nowadays.

Well-intentioned desire for having a good simulation of reload times in a combat scenario would need the speeds to err on the side of slow/below-average. Maybe some soldiers could reload their weapons extremely fast even under combat stress and fatigue, even when (possibly) dealing with substandard equipment - But if you simulate above-average efficiency at ALL TIMES and pretend it's a serious attempt at realism, you're acting on bad faith.

As I see it, ideally (if RO2 shot for "simness"), the default reload time should be slightly below average and deteriorate with suppression/wounds.

OT, I love the bags the Russian LMGer uses to hold his magazines. If TWI ever released one of those as merchandise, I'd love to carry round all my rubbish in it.

There's something about the materials used in manufacturing by the Soviet countries before about 1965. Being Communist, each unit produced didn't have to be made for a profit and they could use great materials and seriously over-engineer things.

Lvl 0 player character reload speed is fine for battle hardener soldier imho. When you level up it becomes very quick and sometimes animations are off.

Take a look here

That's 50 lvl MG soldier, and his reload time is utterly quick. Always when I reload MG-34 in RO2 I have feeling that 250 round belt comes from nowhere (from his knee not from backpack(?)). In RO:O animations were slower, but these had more details and felt more authentic.

Apos - Save for the reload time I don't see difference between RO1 and RO2. I looks exactly the same for me. What am I missing? Also, your upper video (link) seems bugged for me, it shows only 30 seconds.

I like the idea of being able to reload a bit faster when your soldier gains experience. It is natural that when you use something for a very long time or very often your skill to operate the weapon increases. Maybe they should add the animation of pulling your ammo from pouches to increase realism feeling and make reload time a while longer, but even without this I like to observe reloading process. When you're behind cover you even need to pull your arm back to be able to reload. That's nice.

Reload speed @ level 0 is fine. There it goes to about 20% too fast.

I don't really miss the exaggerated reload of RO1, nor the uninterruptability. Animations are generally a lot better in RO2.

Then again, we wouldn't have any problem if stats tracking and exp-system were ditched.

I've always been wondering why reloading in all FPS games is lightning fast. Like new magazines or clips were floating in the air near the player. There's also no randomization affecting loading time and animation.
