I'm holding a killing floor raffle for my clan, and anyone who already has the game is going to help me give out the passes as consolation prizes, must spread the word on this game, hopefully people will buy it for the holidays.

Terrible idea. The steam forums are rabid and horrible and you'll kick off yet another fan boy flame war. Just read the first page of that thread, there's already fights and bickering.

I avoid the Steam forums for exactly that reason. I dunno how it happened, but they went from a smaller yet friendly fanbase, to a HUGE fanbase that has a lot of undesireable traits.

'Sides, I'm saving my guest passes for relatives that visit over the holidays. Nothing like a killing floor holiday LAN party to get 'em hooked.

It's a Valve/Steam Community thing that's been around since 1998. The first foums I ever visited were the PlanetHalfLife.com forums (the old ones) and while most in PHL were decent, things got heated a lot..... and the PlanetCounterStrike forums?

Those were the worst and just about every forum community back then used them as the bad example of a what a forum community could be like..... it was like Troll City in the Wild West for the longest time.

Over ten years have past since I used to visit those forums, and it sounds like very little has changed.

Ahhh..... memories.

This is just what happens when any forum is popular, it becomes too big to effectively moderate and everyone starts acting like tools in the consequence free environment. When people see everyone on a forum acting like tools they do it too.

I'll bet half the people on the steam forums are well behaved in other places. A bad precedent was set and now everyone follows it.
