If you don't spawn on SL, you spawn on the default spawns. If the SL spawn happens to be unavailable you spawn on the default spawns automatically. What's the hassle, pii smith?

You can't choose which spawn (1 or 2) and it would make more sense to see what you can choose and what not. The squad leader himself should also have some form of warning / notice if the other squad members can spawn on him or not.

Nah actually he said you must be near a playerstart, but thats just tech stuff. You can ignore that because like he said, playerstarts for squadleader spawning are everywhere.

I see, so they act like Squad leader mini spawns all over the map, to let the squad leader spawn units near them. Would this explain why in some rooms I cannot spawn my team-mates, even though I am out of sight from the enemy? Because a "playerstart" is missing in my vicinity?

I always choose the SL..however sometimes your no where near him...other times your right out in the open...a fair few times I've been shot as soon as I've spawned supposedly near and SL.

It's a real dangerous way to spawn but if you want to win and the SL turns out a decent one you usually get some points at the obj.

Line of sight, is out the window, I spawned on SL, did a 180 and there was a russian laying down right in the open killed me.. Happen twice in a row, idk how I was able to spawn on him...

other half, spawning on SL seems broke.. or needs tuning to allow more SL spawns and not restrict/limit it so much

It has nothing to do with whether or not you are in a capzone. The only checks are a) if someone on the other team is looking in your direction and b) there is a nearby playerstart (they're everywhere).

It's entirely possible that someone is almost always looking in your direction.

It's much appreciated that you write this in the forums, but since this thread was made in the first place there is obvously a need to let the people who don't necessarily read every single thread in the forum into the loop.

Will there be an official manual or at least an FAQ anywhere in the near future? Personally I think it's sorely needed.

If I know anything about releasing software, or know how my friends in RnD work at my company, documentation is often the VERY last step of a proper release. I think this is due to the fact that everything needs to be set in stone before someone creates a write up for it.

On a side note: A warning to the Squad Leader that he is not in a location where players can spawn on him would be most welcome. Or at least let the spawning players know that the SL spawn is unavailable, instead of just letting them select it, but throwing them into Spawn 1. That way, when they spawn, they can let the squad leader know he is not in a proper spawn location.

Wouldn't it be better if it checked if someone in the other team is looking at the playerstart. If a enemy is looking at the playerstart in question it could check other playerstarts all the way back to the regular spawn.

I'm starting to think the assignment of players to these "playerstarts" is bugged. I only spawn on a squad leader (if they're alive) probably 20% of the time. I'm ALWAYS spawning back at deployment, even if we're half way up the map and my SL is sitting in a building somewhere.

And when I do spawn on a squad leader....sometimes the playerstart I end up at seems....poorly chosen to say the least. Setting a player start at the foot of the exterior stairs to Propoganda House is a death sentence for that player in many instances.

Now that I know it's based on LOS, I'll try and pay more attention to staying hidden and telling my SL's to stay hidden. Because I'm fairly sure something is still a little wonky with the system.

License Unreal 3 REALLY doesn't give you the option for dynamic player spawns?

Isn't playerspawns just a path node? been like a couple months since messing with udk but i guess you have to cook the map so those things are hardcoded, kinda lame

Then it would be better if you stayed in the spawn-queue until the SL was considered in a safe area when you selected "spawn on SL" (you wouldn't have to wait for a spawn wave though, that would make it useless). The squadleader could even get noticed that people are trying to spawn on him.

As it is now you spawn in the default zones 90% of the times you try it anyway, with no feedback on why it didn't work.

It would make more sense if the squad leader spawn field greyed out when they were alive but you couldn't spawn on them.

That would actually give us a reason to use the Ready button as well, since so many people seem to favor an auto-ready function.

I have tried this spawn mechanic out last night and I have to say it was working quite well. When I would stay hidden and out of sight, I had no problem with people spawning on me regularly. Now me sitting still was another issue :)

Thats why I sneak and peek as a Squad leader. I do get to kill, scout, smoke etc, but most of the time I try to stay as inconspicuous as possible to get a maximum of spawnable time out of my rounds. Also the reason why I usually run around with a semi instead of an automatic.

stuff like this needs to be stickied, or put in a manual.

You're way more useful as a Squad Leader if you're playing aggressively and throwing tons of smoke. Lurking around with the intent of letting players spawn on you is a little bit silly unless you're well-entrenched and on the defending team, or you've got a well-organized group on voice chat.

SasQuatch, was there ever talk for point bonuses for SQL who sit back and let team-mates spawn on them? Maybe 3 points for every 5 squad-mates who spawn on you. Would encourage a more cautious sit-back and hide approach than the run-and-gun approach I seem to favor :)

As in 'enemy has a straight line of sight to SQL'. So the enemy is actually looking at you. That prevents a team mate from spawning on you because it is a clear indication that you are in a danger zone.

So if you want to be a good Squadleader to spawn on, you should:

-try to stay alive as long as possible and spend as little time possible waiting in the spawn cue. So for squadleaders playing sensible and defensive agressive is more key then to any other class.
-try to be well in cover most of the time, only popping out to peek or shoot, throw smoke, set artytargets for commander etc...

Squadleaders are not the rambo's of the squad, that role is for the assault class.

Sounds good on paper, but it makes SL spawning way too inconsistent.

It should at least alert you if you are unable, so i can pick a different spawn

Taking the developer responses into question here I have an example. FallenFighters playing as the russians and my squad cant spawn on me when I'm in the tunnel. Is that intentional, a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
