In Red October Factory, I see on the map that we need to destroy some objectives. How do you do THAT?
As engineer you normally throw satchel charge next to the objective (in Red October Factory they are mostly doors) that blow up hopefully and you get points for destroying it. Not sure if tank shots and spamming explosives do the same thing as satchel charge does.
Simple :)

On Red October, I believe there are two destroyable objectives and then a bunch of other non-objective destroyable objects such as doors and open box cars.

The objectives are the Welding Shed and the Signal Box. The idea here is that you have an engineer blow them up with a satchel charge as an alternative to capturing them.

Although a recent patch said they fixed destroyable objectives so that they count as captured, I've heard this still doesn't work.

The problem will be convincing your team not to go into these objectives and let you blow them up without getting insta-banned for multiple team kills because they've been conditioned to rush into cap zones. I couldn't even be sure I wasn't being bull****ted about destroyable objectives still not working just to keep me from trying it out and killing a lot of team members with a boompack.

I'd have to trust that it still isn't working and maybe go into an empty server to try it out.

Well, I tried Red October on an empty server. Didn't spend a lot of time there, but a couple of rounds. What I found is it looked like the signal box objective is working...captured it by blowing it up, unless somehow that was just coincident with my bots capturing it normally, but I don't think so. There's some stuff in a box car next to the building, apparently.

But for the life of me I could NOT get the welding shed to blow up. Tried placing the satchel in multiple spots around and in the shed and it just wouldn't destroy anything much less capture it.

OK thanks, I guess it's a wait an see the patch.

Yea... The only other possibility that occurred to me is that the welding shed is a larger and sturdier objective than a simple boxcar...maybe it just has more "hit points" and requires multiple satchels in the right spots to destroy it?

I doubt it, though.

Next to a machine gun
I went into single player and dropped 20 satchels, 20! on the roof on every wall in the middle of that welding shed and it didn't die.

I think the Russians saw this lesson from Stalingrad and made the :IS2: out of welding shields! :D

The satchel has to go in the south west corner of the shed, where the floor is lower than the rest of the shed. The area to place the satchel seems to be very small, right in the corner, and there are times where I've thrown it slightly off and not blown the shed. If you zoom in the map you can see the correct corner. I've tried and failed to find the other location, but have read somewhere about someone else finding it.

Seems like most anywhere in the SW corner (about 1m^2 of area) works for B, closer to the floor helps, but I put at hip height on the wall and it took it out. Works well if you cut a path through A, then run to B and prime it as your allies are capping A.

Confirmed, consistently got it to cap Obj B on Red October Factory when placing it there. The only problem was getting my team to avoid B and to focus C.

It was fun to listen to on VOIP though. "Okay, I've got a satchel on B, stay away" ...wait... "Hey -name- just go to C" ALLIES ARE ATTACKING THE WELDING SHED "No guys, move, you're going to explode" *BOOM*. If the server was its usual population, I bet you'd have gotten autokicked :D

When I was leveling Engineer up, I'm positive the 2FJG / Volk guys had an unofficial bet going as to what satchel # I was going to get kicked for due to teamkills. I've managed to get auto-kicked for taking out 7 people on the left flank of Red October Factory on Obj A for blowing the door. The sheer level of screaming coming out of my mouth via VOIP was incomprehensible, as four of the seven were sitting on the satchel thinking it was going to give them immortality.

I've done some experimenting with blowing things up on te-redoctoberfactory.
As stated before, the SW corner of B is the place. It's too dark (and violent) to get a good look, but since it's a welding shed, I'm choosing to believe racks of flammable gas are stored there. I also confirmed the bug (by mistake) that if you blow up B before your team has capped A, you can't cap C and you have doomed the Allies to failure.

I destroyed the Signal Box (F) by placing a satchel on the barrels in the top floor. Maybe that is an ammo cache next to it? Regardless, it went boom and the objective was capped correctly.

I think it's going to be a while before I can avoid choosing Allies->Engineer on that map. So much stuff to blow up!

Edit: Update to this, last time I tried to blow up F, it didn't work. So now I'm having my doubts about whether I blew it up or if teammates outside the building itself capped it.

Figured I'd link a screenshot for anyone trying to blow up RoF objective B. One satchel right there (sw corner of B) blew it up. I apologize for war movie effect making it kinda hard to see.

Ya, not getting kicked as an engie on RoF can be hard sometimes. So many things to blow up, I remember after using 8 satchels and no tks(several german kills though) one game, I got kicked for putting a 9th on G with 3 tks.

Thought I'd necro this thread to just point out that they've fixed the glowing objectives and map symbols in the Beta. It's a lot easier to see what needs to be blown up now!

Yea, the Right large door on Obj.A on RedOctober Factory can be blown, along with the double doors on the last Factor Objective by the right side of the building. both give Team Points

Also on Commissars house, on the first block on the left side, theirs a door to the Basement, that can be blown, blowing holes right though some of the other walls in the basement, allowing for better access
