setting that parameter to FALSE makes the game playable for me, becuse i get a 40fps framerate increase .. and it looks overall much better and sharper ..less painfull for your eyes..

BUT . .
u can not get supressed anymore ..
I dont mind getting blurred in supressed mode .. and having a slight framerate drop ..
please HARDCODE it to True - ONLY WHEN SUPRESSION IS ON..
this is a serious cheat !!!

Really? If true, this is possibly very serious, considering suppression is a major gameplay element.

supressionmechanics is working, just tried running into arty, but the effect is very weak, and not limiting in any way without blur. and u dont get double vision. So its still a cheat.
but being forced to have dof outside supression will BRICK the game for me and many other ppl becuse of bad performance .. they just need to remodel the effect, so its not dependant on dof=true. :)

I concur with OP, this is a problem. I was playing witout DoF and always thought the suppresion was weak. I now turned it on and, oh boy, what a difference. I'm now gonna play with in on, since no suppression feels like cheating. DEV attention please!

U.K.
The problem lies with the issue that the toggle labeled as DOF isn't just DOF, it's actually pretty much all post processing effects as far as I can tell. Tripwire probably would do well to either seperate them out, or just rename it.

It's also has other problems like affecting HDR, meaning if you turn DOF off you'll find building interiors to be extremely dark.

The rough solution is to leave the DOF toggle on, but hunt around in the ini for the DOFBlurValResolutionFactor field, and turn it down. Personally I'm using 0.0125, but if you want DOF really subtle, people have said 0.001 works well. You can't put it at just 0 though, apparently it makes the game fail to load.

Obviously, that won't help the people with framerate issues, mearly the people like me who think the standard DOF settings are far too harsh.

There are many ways to get an advantage by editing settings via notepad. That isn't very fair, especially to the extremes people take it.

Yep this is true. All of the post-processing effects are controlled by the DepthOfField var. They need to address that because it's just poor design.

i still get supressed with DoF off....if anything it makes it harder to play in the darker maps, since they get even darker. UE3 works that way i guess...because Borderlands does the same thing.

I wont call you no-dof'ers cheaters. You will have my sympathies for not being able to use all eye-candy :)

If you atleast turn bloom on the game brightens up without DoF. I had it off during the beta for awhile before performance got improved for me.

I heavily tweaked my config and my game looks like crud. A smooth, playable crud.

The good thing is, I don't have any advantage over others besides a better framerate. I still get suppressed, I can't see through smoke or foliage, etc...

The only thing is that the interiors of buildings are a little brighter, which makes seeing enemies easier... But I don't really think that's a huge problem. Anyone can raise their gamma.

Would be a much better idea to fix the bugged suppression system first before looking at this, seeing as nothing is more annoying than running around as completely suppressed because a rifle round that whizzed past your head 5 min ago...

Having said this, DoF shouldn't be connected to blurring when being suppressed, so they need to seperate the two.

In some game that isn't RO2. Go find it.

I guess this explains why so many were going "oh suppression is worthless!", because they've nerfed every graphic setting possible to get either decent FPS or an advantage. Having never turned off DoF, artillery and extreme suppression is a pain in the ***. I never could figure out what people were complaining about.
