Looks good enough, and happy to see Mr. Bond on the side of the Communists for once :p
I just have a major problem with the exagerrated "accents" , its just plain wrong and sounds stupid.

For a really good partisan movie, instead watch "Come and See".

Did i see a German raiding their camp?
It was my understanding that the Germans never were able to find their camp, or maybe they did and they had to retreat a long way further into the forest. But i think they did that long before they were found.

Still, i'm not sure, and this definitely is one of the stories of WW2 that i'd like to be told, so i hope they do it truthfully.
The story of this resistance group had me fascinated for a long time.

I own Come and See but find it hard to recommend to friends as alot of it is almost psychedelic! Like the bit where he first meets that girl, leading up to the bit where they go through the mud meeting up with all those refugees!

I appreciated it cos Im a die-hard ww2 fan! But others wouldnt, and Defiance will reach out and touch more people then Come and See ever could!

Never seen it, but is that one any good?

To be honest, I'm amazed this is being made really. The brothers have more than a few war crimes to their name including robbery and murder of Polish civilians and the Naliboki massacre. They later went Soviet and members from the unit took part in anti-Polish freedom fighter actions. Also as far as I remember, one of them is still serving time for a pretty brutal rape and another is in prison for kidnapping.

So yeah, real ****ing heroes. But hey, why let the truth get in the way of a good film eh?

I got my hands on a screener of this and watched it last night, and I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. As far as I'm concerned, the film is overall historically accurate, with one of the only exceptions being a part where German bombers located the postition of the second camp and bombed it, which I have never read accounts of. Also, Daniel Craig and the other brothers' acting is amazing in the film, and it almost reached out to me as me "understanding" what it would have been like to be a Jew during WW2.

You have to watch this sometime, whether it be the cinema or a DVD, or even on TV in years to come. I liked how this film concentrated mainly on the story and plot, and didn't go off the trails making it ultra hollywood. That's what appealed to me most, and I'm sure most of you will say the same.

Actually, I really wasn't a fan at all to be honest.

The acting was pretty awful in areas, not made easier by the terrible accents, and when they did talk in their 'native' language it's actually the wrong one. Adding the Polish love interest seemed like a cheap way of trying to smooth over some of the more dodgy aspects of the story imo.

The action scenes were well done, but obviously massivley over dramatised to make them more interesting for the viewer.

I must admit, I wasn't thrilled when I heard this film was being made, but I hoped the director would atleast handle it well. IMO, he really didn't. Completely ignored the issues regarding the war crimes, changed big bits of the story to distance the 'characters' from it and then threw in a nice bit of Hollywood style story telling to finish it off.

To be fair, it's an ok done film, but you would have to be high to call it historically accurate, and when dealing with subjects like this there really is no excuse for parting with the facts.

Do they yell "Vasya, kaver me, I'm reeelouding" with horrible accents? :)

Also, I wonder, will there be any Hollywood made film based on Eastern front where Russians will not use "human swarm" tactics, have evil politruks everywhere that are happy to shoot anyone in the head and have actual Russian as a main hero in the movie?

There were more noteable partisan groups back then but they've decided to portray this one.
Haven't watched it yet.
I don't know if I want to. Probably I'll wait for more reviews and then decide.

Just read some reviews. This partisan group has nothing to do with Soviets or Russians, and the whole movie is about Jewish people. Not my cup of tea.
Also, polizei's are talking in Russian. :/

just saw it tonight. though not your typical ww2 shoot em up, a fantastic movie overall. a GREAT story (that should be told), good character development, historical accuracy (loved the pIII and all the nice russian weapons!!!) and just really a good movie to go watch. much better than that um....tom cruise thing :p. the accents were not that bad and craig was a good fit for the main character and really played the part well. though they were not tons of actions scenes, the quality was better than the quantity. it was nice to see a good story told and not butchered to death like most "based on true stories" movies are. now, i am not jewish, but i can look at this movie and appreciate the message behind the story. it historically shows how not only were the jews persecuted by the Nazis, but by were also mistreated by the Soviets as well. for all the uninformed people out there that make the comments about the jewish people just sitting back and accepting their persecution, this movie shows an unfamiliar and relatively unknown story of the jews standing up for themselves and fighting back against oppression. thanks to the work of a few, many were saved. consider the tens of thousands of children and grandchildren that live today because these 1200 were saved....now that is simply amazing.

well worth my $7.

Sorry, but what the ****?

historical accuracy

Erm. . . just no. Read the above posts.

the accents were not that bad
They were piss take Russian, not Polish, so no the accents were bad, or you're pretty ignorant to what accents are supposed to sound like.

it was nice to see a good story told and not butchered to death like most "based on true stories" movies are.
Read a history book please and then you'll realise how wrong that statement is.

consider the tens of thousands of children and grandchildren that live today because these 1200 were saved....now that is simply amazing.
I understand your point but also consider the thousands of people who starved to death beause of them, hard to see them as that noble imo.

In all seriousness, please just read a few of the numerous books on this subject as it's seems pretty obvious this film is gonna be the basis of your 'historic' knowledge otherwise.

Yeah, why should we have historical accuracy when we talk about the holocaust and murder, it's not like any of the people effected by this stuff are still alive, or people will take it as gospel  Call me old fashioned, but I think stuff like that actually matters and should be respected especially if you're going to be broadcasting it to millions of people. Btw putting it in bold doesn't make it any more or less true.

D3terioNation, get back under your bridge. We don't flame you for being the tard who declared the films awesomeness without even seeing it or reading a book about the subject.
