Very simple, hold B (left flank) as long as you can (squad leaders in or very close to B for spawn points) so all fixed MGs can be kept constantly manned and shooting, etc. Once axis lose B it's gone for good, but A can be counterattacked and retaken, so allies need some troops to stay in A when (not if) they take it.

As the map is, the whole game is basically decided in the first few seconds, depending whether axis get a good defensive position in B or not from the very start.

I'm posting this because in my (limited) experience there are now way too many commanders (on axis side) who don't know and understand the Iwo Jima map and/or don't bother to communicate the importance of holding B to squad leaders and grunts (who way too often end up just camping and giving up all the cap zones in no time, which is not really fun for either side).

Lately I've heard lot of complaints about Iwo Jima being most hated map, and I guess this is partly because axis TL and SL's don't know how to defend it properly. If and when players understand the map it's IMHO the most enjoyable map for both sides, very tough fighting on close quarters and tactical challenges on the fly in the battle of wits between leadership. Share your thoughts on Iwo and lets play better games on the beautiful map. :)

Attacking Iwo Jima

Attacking Iwo Jima

Supposing axis know what they are doing and get their act together early on, allied really need their flamers and also other grunts besides engineers to grab satchels from crates on beach to clear more access routs uphill (under smoke cover) through the barbed wire, while also taking A and pushing from their advanced left flank towards B. And then the fight gets tough and entertaining... :)

A and C are the pivotal points on this map IMO, it's where the US lose the most men and the Japanese have the best chance of lockdown
