Has anyone noticed that on Attack/Defend maps, defence always wins? No matter the team, they always seem to win. It's almost surprising when you win on the attacking team.

I haven't played in a while, but when I played, it depended on the teams or how well the defenders defended.
But with the patch giving more reinforcements to defense, I don't know if that is altering the outcomes.

Here's how it goes:
Germans win because of equipment advantage

Russians win because of reinforcement advantage.

I don't get the equipment advantage. Is MKb really altering the outcome that much?
I always considered the Soviets to have better weapons

While I don't think it is an entire game changer, I do believe that the Germans have equipment superiority.

Can't say about after the latest patch, but before that

Station, Appartments, Red October Factory and Spartanova were won by attackers in my experience more often than not. While CH and GE were won by defenders more often then not. For ROF and Spart at least winning seems to be a big part on how good your commander is (due to short arty cds). Spart for instance is won by the team with the commander who has more points/kills at least 85% of the time.

While I don't think it is an entire game changer, I do believe that the Germans have equipment superiority.

True, but good ppsh users can make a much larger dent than the mkb/mp-40 because of the larger clip size/fast rate of fire. Then again germans have the better LMG for the same reasons.

Nonsense. In my experience attackers win about 50% on Spartanovka and GrainElevators. It is very much based on the skill of the team who wins on those maps. And on Apartments it is more in the 75% range that the attackers win.

I haven't played the other maps enough to make a judgement about them though.

I see Apartments, Station and Factory won by offense most of the time. Spartanovka's around 50/50. Grain Elevator and Commissar's House are definitely in the defender's favor, but they're obviously supposed to be. The other maps are all neutral push.

So, two out of six? That's not very defense biased.

Basically this, its only really significantly noticeable on GE where I have yet to see a German team push past B since the last patch. (I play mainly on 50 and 64 man servers and on the Russian side, if it matters). CH has gotten progressively better over the last few patches, although if there isn't a significant amount of cooperation on the Russian (or a sever amount of incompetence on the German side) its still almost impossible to win.

Well, you need to unlock the drum mag for the PPSH, and by that point the MP40 will have the MP40/II upgrade which is almost as good. Maybe even better when you factor in the significantly lower recoil. The problem is that German weapons are generally better at level 1, and only get better with time.

As far as map balance, I find it is usually the better team that wins, regardless of attacker/defender. During the beta, and after launch as well, I remember plenty of times that attackers completely rolled the defenders simply by not losing momentum. With the exception of Commisar's House I think the maps are actually too easy to attack, due to having few effective choke points. This morning on GE, the defenders won as a result of the Germans wasting time trying to sneak into the GE before even capturing B. The game would've gone much differently if they just played smart, and attacked as a team instead of sending 2-3 people at a time.

My experience and I have only been doing the RO thing for a just a wee bit of time but the team with the most cooperative teamwork and listening usually wins regardless of weapon superiority. I remember a few maps in RO where the russians were horribly outgunned in weapons (no MG's) and armor (SU76 only). It took incredible teamwork but managed a soviet victory on more than one occasion. Another map is Berizina. Without teamwork on that map the russians would be swept aside in a matter of minutes. WIth solid teamwork you can make the germans pay to the last bridgehead and run the clock out.

damn I miss that map. THAT'S the way I wanted ROHoS to be.

Personally, I'd welcome a map that is designed to be imbalanced and largely favor one team, because on servers w/ a good community it would be fun to get together with players from both teams who like a challenge and want to try to work together to win it. CH used to be kinda like that, but its not quite so one sided anymore, I still mostly play Russians on it though. Another alternative is a map that's designed to be not at parity in terms of players on each team but instead in a ratio like 2:1 or 3:1. You could combine one of those with giving one team 1.5-3x the reinforce, but understanding they are prob gonna have to die a lot more to win (doesn't really bother me).

Well, you need to unlock the drum mag for the PPSH, and by that point the MP40 will have the MP40/II upgrade which is almost as good. Maybe even better when you factor in the significantly lower recoil. The problem is that German weapons are generally better at level 1, and only get better with time.

I played my first hundred hours with bolts, semi-auto and LMGs before really trying smgs/mkb. Maybe its just me personally, but I found ppsh fun to use right off the bat, by level 10 I was pretty used to the recoil. By 25 the recoil was barely noticeable for me and the extra ammo countered its biggest flaw which was flanking (best way to clear out buildings as assault imo) into a room of germans from behind you could only kill 2-3 before you had to reload, by which time you died (pretty much any gun besides LMGs and the bayonet have this problem). Now its pretty easy to clear a room of say 5 because it fires fast and has bullets to spare for a few misses. So I prefer it for combat up 100m over MP40/II (good, but has longer reload time and small time to switch mags can get you killed still) or mkb or avt. I think a lot of the Russian players using it do too.

No, never noticed. I see both sides win routinely.
