Like many of you upon downloading the update my load times went from 15 seconds to 2+ minutes. I was very upset at first thinking TWI ruined KF for my rig, but then i remembered i have gone through this before. After following this guide, my load times went from 2+ mins back down to 15-30 seconds.

*edit* please make sure you do this with steam off or at least restart it, not sure if this make a diff, but i think it does, i started with it off */edit*

1) Find your killingfloor.ini file located in the steam/steamapps/common/KF/system folder (hint it looks like a notepad icon with a cog)
2) Change the cache size to better match your ram size
Listed under [Engine.GameEngine].

256 Megabytes of RAM or less
CacheSizeMegs=32

512 Megabytes of RAM
CacheSizeMegs=64

768 Megabytes of RAM
CacheSizeMegs=128

1 Gigabyte of RAM or more
CacheSizeMegs=256

EDIT BY Zetsumei: NEVER make CacheSizeMegs bigger than 256mb unless you like crashes!

Fix2: Turn of PreCaching
Also in your killingfloor.ini under [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]
Change UsePrecache=True to UsePrecache=False
and under [Engine.LevelInfo]
Change bNeverPrecache=false to bNeverPrecache=true
and under [Engine.NullRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False

good luck, i didnt make this guide, im just a messenger...the following info was taking from the RO forums, i take no credit for it.

*edit:i got a couple of pms of people asking me where the RO.ini file was, i got this from the RO boards...simply forgot to make one minor change that said RO.ini instead of killingfloor.ini ***should be good now!

I did this before. Are you saying that we need to do it AGAIN after the update? Cuz my load times have been high...

Honestly, I think it's a bug that I'm experiencing. I have my game almost LOCK UP in load times now when the server I'm on changes maps! It never used to!

No, I did this before, and the update didnt change the .ini, so if you've already done it, no need to do again.

My vga card is intel x3100, and I feel performance is increased when I change to DX8 mode. Detail here. http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=30754

However, about the lock-up during change map, I dont know any work around. And I feel the new map is kinda big, so avoid hing ping sv with those new map (never play beldam map since update)

For people thinking the game has hung up on map change/load - wait.

For some reason the game is taking longer to load maps after the content update - the above fix may alleviate that somewhat, but the best advice is to just give the game the benefit of the doubt and give it a sec before reaching for the Alt and F4 keys. :p

England, but just to the right
finaly now i might actualy to be able to join a game :D thanks for this lol

give it a sec before reaching for the Alt and F4 keys. :p

hitting escape seems to stop the loading aswell and puts me back to main menu

Edit: ok this has worked for me, not sure if it was this .ini file but solo game loads 2x faster and multiplayer is working ALMOST correctly

Is it possible it only affects the map on the first load, like how Source games precache sounds? I know they fixed exploits on the maps, so it may treat them as a "new" map.

Unfortunately not. I was having loading problems even when a map replayed after itself.

The workaround I found was that if you minimize the game and then bring it back up, within a few seconds of a black screen you'll find yourself in the lobby.

I have 2 Intel G2 SSDs in raid 0 and the load times are sometimes still really long. I never timed it, but I'd say load times can take as long as a full minute. I've done the ini file edit and the problem persists.

My guess is it's from the ads they added.

i think so too! put in a banner, not some high definition video with sound in the already bugy and sensitive menus. btw i didnt even know there was a RO video until like the 25 maps in, it loads about 2 minutes after i join...and my comp goes super slow in the mean time! FIX****

not for me, I had this done from the beginning and the update changed the bNeverPrecache value back to false while leaving the rest untouched for some reason. I knew exactly what to look for when the maps were taking forever to load.

but even after changing it back, random maps still hang on load for some reason. it's not the same ones either, could be a replay of the same map that loaded up instantly now taking forever or not loading at all.

I blame the ads as well, unless they made some other fundamental changes to the routine. it's a good cause and I'm all for it as long as it doesn't affect stability, but unacceptable if causing problems with map loading.

I'm not running any virus scanning or firewall utilities either, just a simple checksum manager. this would only cause a problem if trying to load some unkown executable.

I checked my ini, and see nothing change. Well, I think I should re-check.

What's your checksum manager?

^^I use Tiny Firewall Pro, sold off and no longer in dev. even so it's still flawless in xp x86 for the most part, gonna hate ditching it when moving on to win7. it actually is a firewall, but I have it managed so that steam/kf hashes have open privs.

It set my cache down to something obscenely low again, for some reason. Upping it back to 256 didn't really do much to help, though...

Just so you know PC in theory could have 100 high end intel cards and it still wouldnt match 1 high end ATI or Nvidia card.

My guess is it's from the ads they added.

I doubt that, KF uses 1500mb mem for me now. One of those videos is max 5mb. So that video cant matter much eve if it would be loaded during loading of a map.

But according to the devs the video is loaded from your harddisc after you're already in the lobby and not during a map load. So the video cannot have any effect with loading.

Now if the game uses 1500mb, you can see stuttering, long load times, bad performance, create texture failed issues.

But there is no way that that memory usage can due to the video.

I think you should all keep in mind that TWI is probably working hard to fix these problems that are popping up. Telling them repeatedly to hurry up or to fix **** isn't going to speed up the process.
