Agreed... but its more like a tragedy.

Ah.... what this game used to be and now, what its become. One must ask, WHY??
I don't know. i'm kinda digging it still. that is as long as enough players are on your custom server. it seems to have everything this thread is asking for. problem is, none of the people asking seem to be bothered trying out the server. :eek: why do people ask for stuff and refuse it when it's offered to them?

Spawn on SL truly changes how I play, if you have a SL who sits in a safe spot, you can play full Rambo since it's a few second cycle back to the fight. Strategy comes down to simply swarming the caps, there's no need to think about maneuvering across terrain, the size of the map is irrelevant. It's idle fun, but not very engaging for me.

I miss taking down a wave of the enemy with my teammates and earning a small potentially safe period to move up since they are respawning and probably not in position yet. I like this, it makes me feel like you're achieving something. With spawn on SL, it simply feels like an endless shootout.

You don't offense respawn on SL, you just offense player who play with this bad style. So I am agree with you.
I mean it is hilarious but kills any authentic feeling and gameplay.
So realism mode is just hilarious? Just no, Dude… No Realism mode is not just an hilarious part inside RO 2. Great gameplay can be created by respawn on SL. It’s possible. Bad gameplay is possible too, you know ? But the important point it’s we can have great gameplay.

I just played 2 rounds Realism on Saipan and it is just boring. SL in good position and using him as broodmother. Funny thing is that the enemy was doing the same thing on the other side of the wall. So you respawn on SL, run around the corner only to see 3 enemies materialize in front of your eyes, nade spamming follows spawn spamming. I mean it is hilarious but kills any authentic feeling and gameplay.
I said it before: Realism is a lot of fun at first and easy to learn for new players (lol Butch, I did it again) but as easy and accessible as it is to start with it grows boring just as quickly. Quick in, quick out effect and I believe it is one reason for poor player retention. There were a few guys on the server complaining about the zoom but unaware of Classic game mode.
Also I suppose some new players come to the game expecting something new and different from the game only to see that the basic gameplay mechanics are just like any other MP FPS. Seen that, done that. Nice, thanks and goodbye.
Respawn on SL can be fun...It's sure. But main goal of Respawn on SL is not this goal...I don't think the aim of Respawn on SL is to be FUN. or : it's not the FIRST aim. First Aim of Respawn on SL is to be tactic, and make realism mode tactic.
I don’t think the aim of Tripwire when they decided to created respawn on SL was to create an hilarious gamemode but a tactic game.

I would be agree with you if respawn on SL was ONLY WHAT you described. I would be agree with you if realism mode was ONLY WHAT you described. Game seems to be more complexe than you can think or that you have played - until now.
Respawn on SL make the game tactic BEFORE to make the game fun. you miss a point : the fact Respawn on SL is a weapon. It's a weapon. As just SL and TL are weapons in battle.
You can poke fun at a weapon. But what is truly laughable is just the misuse of a weapon... not the weapon itself.

I am ok with you to say on this point : people who don’t who very use a weapon need to give up place and not doing bad job. Same problem when you play under order of a noob who take TL task… When you meet a bad TL, the problem is the guy not the TL.

Respawn on SL is a weapon…only a weapon in your hand. (...and not a fun way to ruin RO 2) Bad SL and bad soldier mean bad use of respawn on SL. Chaos of war can be created thank to respawn on SL, and it's make a line of front inside the line of front. It's a good point. Inside the FPS who is RO2, respawn on SL make something close to the fog of war inside the RTS.
Then again I played Coldsteel last night on a Realism server and that is just awful with spawn on SL as you tend to respawn on the wrong side of cover often behind enemies or right in front of them. Just awful. Clearly a map that shows how spawn on SL can ruin everything that is good.
Your way to use respawn on SL ruin respawn on SL itself, because respawn on SL make RO 2 a wonderful game. Respawn on SL need to be used with art, because it’s a weapon. Look like arty or recon plane of the TL.

Damage is more unforgiving in Classic.

Damages ARE SAME in classic and in realism mode. More hard is to kill a soldier running in realism mode.

but I forgot Action which I think none of us really likes.

Action can be fun. I have no problem with action mode.

So I played a few rounds of Realism lately and though I enjoy it a lot less than Classic I can play a round or two. It has become a casual shooter to me.
It says the game uses waves of reinforcements to "simulate" the arrival of new troops on the battlefield.

Respawn on SL make the game more addictive. SERIOUSLY !

You will never listen someone talking you SERIOUSLY about realism mode ...just because he is talking about realism mode or about Respawn on SL just because he is talking about Respawn on SL. Do you accept we can love realism mode NOT for the reason realism is fun ?

If tickets simulate wave of reinforcements, respawn on SL simulate chaos of war i mean : a line of front inside the line of front; and moral factor of the SL inside battle.

Respawn on SL show in a line of front who is a battle, i mean a line of front inside a line of front. Tension is bigger...it's really addictive.
Respawn on SL show players a round can be win thank to moral factor. it's an interresting point.

Looking at the discussion in this thread i shudder at the diversity among players and their thoughts of where RO2 should go, or could have gone anyway.

I had some good games the other day so i thought to play a few rounds now...
Why is TW also running bot filled servers?? What good example are they setting here? What IS it with these admins. Ai filled, i'm not joining those.

Oh SO that's why no one turns off spawn on SL....it makes it unrank. Ok that's dumb. However I should think that from a commercial stand point TWI more realistic cod clone is a success.IS it huge go out and buy 4 BMW's success....NO. But its enough to grow your business. But on the flip side......... Hmm classic was throwing a bone and was half hearted IMO. But the guts are there to make OR remake RO1 clone or something OTHER. AS more realistic is not mainstream this is up to the modders to fix IMO (but now your server is likely screwed). Tripwire needs to grow and expand as business to survive. Coming up with some other game type or new customs maps that make more tactical sense for the legit hard core crowd. But no ones gonna give you money and tripwire may not encourage it if it is seen to take away from their baby. So no ranking stat crap. Which is fine with me. But stick in a rank system that works PER map or PER campaign would do similar things to ranking up 50 levels. Its a good gimmick. I love and HATE it at the same time.

So adding spawn on SL took away so much from the game and adds so little besides the game- and immersion breaking factors.

So again TWI please make it optional without unranking the server! Give us back some tactics besides "SL stay close to cap and stay alive!" because I find this boring as hell.

To have the best of both worlds maybe have the commander and SL together be able to raise one 'forward base' or similar where players can choose to spawn. It's lifespan can be limited and -more importantly- it can be destroyed by enemies.

I just played a round of Grain Elevator.


I can't describe how infuriating it is to see a guy beam down for the Starship Enterprise RIGHT in front of you, managing to shoot you and go on his merry way, despite the fact you just dumped a whole mag from your MP40 into his face.

The sooner they change the way spawning on your squad leader works, or giving admins the ability to disable it without being relegated to the unranked server list, the better.

Imho SL spawn does not belong to RO at all. I hope they realise it at some point...
RO is not Cod and RO is not Battlefield, but with SL spawn enabled it feels like a cheap copy of those games.

TW does not have to copy all aspects of the average FPS of today. Some key features like no SL spawn should be one of the main features of the game as well as great gunplay and the gritty immersion of being just a soldier and not a rambo on the battlefield.

One of the main reasons i loved the RO mod and later RO:OST so much was,
that it was different to all those run and gun games with rifles that need several hits to kill or bad counter strike clones with nothing new or good in them.
Games with no spawn protection and massive spawn rape are so common these days and i was and i am sick of them since 10 years.

RO should stick to it s roots with no SL spawn ...

Do them both I say. Its better to get on the fence new COD/BF?whatever guys and then have a game mode that is just more "real". May end up increasing numbers of folks that prefer no beaming down to battle.

Ya it is epic annoying having some shmuck pop up out of thin air with a second of spawn protection in front of you. Personally having TL assign a respawn location (defined in map of course) for the whole team would be nice as they may not be playing as a team but they are more likely to look like it...maybe even start too. OR since it looks like troop vehicles are around the corner spawn on a truck or just drive into battle in an apc.

But this is interesting comments and the like. Perhaps community of the Hard corp players should attempt to come up with something that IS somewhere between territory and classic. Likely would require new or really tweaked maps.

I say twi should NOT change what they have. ITs a good introduction and sifter of new players to a bit more real. If they take to it they may look for more.

Anybody with more than a passing knowledge of TWI should know that you're actually insulting the devs when you say this game is anything like COD. If you just want to vent, fine, but realize that they're probably not going to listen to a word you say if you say you think this game is anything like COD, which it is not. You might as well curse them up outright, for all it will get you.

That said, I like spawn-on-SL because I very frequently play SL and enjoy the challenge of getting to a good position to spawn my squad and make a difference. It mitigates the unrealistic boundaries of the maps in some sense. IRL I would have my squad flank any serious resistance if possible.

That also said, I'd be open to a change if TWI implements it. I trust their vision for this game. Call me a fanboi if you wish.

But is it is a cod clone... Like cod 1 and 2 before they became the devil. I played ALOT of those. The overall game is vary similar...its like the soul of infinity ward migrated. Sorry if aimed at me... ruff around the edges at times. i forget many have are soft skinned vehicles. LOL and look a funny that will be interpreted as an insult. Sigh.... text and the interweb. What can you do? Oh and Im pushing 40 damnit so I recall when COD was NOT the devil. :eek::IS2::eek:

What I don't like about Realism mode:

- Unlocks are too grindy. Just give us all accessible options and let us choose our loadout. For example, drums for the PPSH.

- Spawn on Squad Leader. Causes some annoying issues like spawning into the line of fire. And I would prefer if everyone had to move up from the "front line" rather than start ahead of it.

What I don't like about Classic:

- Run speed is too slow, too little stamina.

- No options for sensible attachments/parts. PPSH-41s should get the option of drums or stick mags, or ideally a mix of both.


Some other things I might be missing about each mode. I just play in realism and have some fun in Rising Storm, which I prefer to default RO2 for some reason.

Here i will disagree with you. I will defend Respawn on SL.

Respawn on SL create a line of front inside line of front. It what i call "chaos of war". We can found in a FPS the "fog of war" of a RTS...Respawn on SL make game more immersive, more brutal, more tactic, more nervous...Even with problems, respawn on SL is better than classic mode. Maybe people doesn't know to use it well.
Game is "more nervous" than in classic mode by to respawn on Squad Leader and several other things in realim mode. Respawn on Squad Leader reveal moral factor exist inside the battle.

For me, someone who doesn't understand utility of respawn on SL (either as Sl or either as soldier) doesn't understand utility of moral factor inside the battle.

It is a feature that I had to get used to. But then after some time I saw that it improved squad cohesion and cooperation, so I accepted it.
In some scenarios and some situations I don't like it - mostly if I want to play lone wolf - and then I simply don't use it.

So many players attack respawn on SL. Few players only defend respawn on SL. defend respawn on SL for real reasons to defend it.

Respawn on SL simulate several things :

- moral factor symbolized by Sl and his link with soldiers who can change the face of a battle
- chaos of war who is the fact who create a line of front inside the line of front
- fog of war : it's a fog of war inside a FPS look like there is a fog of war inside RTS
- Respawn on SL simulate "resistance pocket" during battle

Respawn on SL is finally a good thing.

For you, realism mode and Respawn on SL sucks for severals reasons. For severals reasons, realism mode and Respawn on SL are really interresting. Don't change your way of playing, if you want - but don't say something who is not totally right.

But you don't want to know HOW MUCH attractive and interresting can be Respawn on SL - EVEN with its problems. Problems of Respawn on SL is more players THEMSELVES ! Respawn on SL, it's a weapon. What is suck : it's the use (or maybe we need to say the misuse) of respawn on SL not the weapon that is respawn on SL.
I want to talk only to reasons of superiority of respawn on SL. People accepting or not accepting this superiority is not my problem. I just remenber this superiority of respawn on SL. It's why i defend respawn on SL who is too QUICKLY and easily attacked.

You do well. You are in the good way to understand RO 2. ( so i mean realism mode). It's a good reason.

Respawn on Sl gives real meaning to the squad leader. And it make remenber us "moral factor" was present inside battle.

For testing purposes both teams have been equipped with a Universal Carrier, drivable and capable of carrying infantry. They are also set to spawn at active spawns (and de-spawn from ones that go inactive, as well as ones abandoned in the field).

It's show HOW MUCH GOOD is the idea of respawn on vehicles AND respawn on SL. It's partially explain why realism mode is really interesting, (with also its another good points).
